WANDERERS ARE UP!
(Saturday 7th May 2011)
Wanderers were promoted back to 'League One' after coming from a goal down to beat Southend United 3-1 in front of an 8,500 crowd at Adams Park on Saturday. The champagne was put on ice after former Wanderers loanee Anthony Grant had fired the visitors ahead in the 15th minute but Scott Donnelly got Wycombe back into the game five minutes later when he tucked the ball in from close range following a Wycombe break. The dramatic turnaround was complete in the 25th minute when Ben Strevens continued his recent goalscoring form with another close range effort that found the back of the net. It was then left for top scorer Scott Rendell to give Wanderers a two goal cushion when he angled in a loose ball from the left of the box to spark more celebration in front of the Valley End. Man of the Match Gareth Ainsworth was substituted in the 72nd as he finished his possible final appearance for the Wanderers, while Kevin Betsy and Adny Sandell both went close to extending the lead before the referee signalled full-time and the cue for the celebrations to begin. GOOD LUCK WANDERERS!
(Friday 6th May 2011)
The best of luck to all the Wycombe Wanderers players and management from Chairboys on the Net ahead of the meeting with Southend United at Adams Park on Saturday. It's understood that as of Friday morning that less than a thousand tickets remained for the home areas of the ground and the game is likely to sell-out on the day, taking the attendance close the League record of 9,625 achieved against Notts County two years ago. Boss Gary Waddock commented to the press "We have to win another game. They have all gone and finished, it's the one in front
that's the most important one. Everyone's confident and focused. Crewe and Bury were must-win games for us and the
players coped extremely well. They were very calm and we got the results that we wanted. It's in our hands, which is great. That's all we wanted. It'll change during the course of the game. I'm sure people will be looking at what Shrewsbury are doing and what we are doing, but after 95 minutes we'll know where we are." |

NO PHILLIPS SELL ON YET
(Friday 6th May 2011)
Steve Hayes has revealed that Wanderers will not receive any further cash from Blackpool this season for the sale of Matt Phillips, even if the Seasiders stay in the Premiership. Official statements released at the time of the sale in August 2010 said Wanderers received an initial £325,000 and would get a 'further sum if they remain in the Premier League next season'. That fee was believed to be in the region of £375,000 but it now transpires that the extra fee is linked to the number of apperances and minutes that Phillips is on the pitch for Blackpool and that has yet to have been reached. Hayes told the Bucks Free Press, "Even if they get relegated
we've got clauses in there for if they go back up within a certain number of years, how many minutes he's on the pitch, and there's a high sell-on clause." Phillips, now 20, has made 26 appearances for Blackpool this season, although many of those have been from the bench and equate to just over 1000 minutes. The precise details of the clause were not reported by the press at this stage. Matt Phillips profile |

PROMOTION BATTLE
(Monday 2nd May 2011)
Wycombe go into the final day of the season knowing victory at home to Southend United would guarantee an automatic return to 'League One'. Anything less than a victory and it will be all eyes on the result of Shrewsbury's home meeting with Oxford United. The Shrews are the only other side capable of sneeking into the final automatic promotion slot, while the play-off spots will realistically see Gillingham and Stevenage rely on final day results to confirm the final standings. They play Chesterfield and Bury respectively with The Shakers still able to grab the Championship should they win at Stevenage and Chestefield lose at home to The Gills. The all important games on the final day (Saturday 7th May) are: Barnet v Port Vale, Burton v Accrington, Chesterfield v Gillingham, Rotherham v Torquay, Shrewsbury v Oxford, Stevenage v Bury and Wycombe v Southend.
