BOARD DELAY OVER BOSS
(Friday 31st October 2003)
The Club annouced late on Friday afternoon that the decision on who will be the next Wanderers' Manager will not be made until the middle of the week commencing 3rd November. Club Chairman Ivor Beeks said via the Wanderers' Official website "There will be no announcement regarding a new manager until the middle of next week. In view of the important games that are coming up next week, we have asked John Gorman to take charge of the LDV Vans fixture against Plymouth away." |

YOUTH TEAM NEWS
(Friday 31st October 2003)
Wanderers Youth Team continue their FA Youth Cup campaign next Wednesday (5th November) when they take on Swindon Town at Adams Park, kick-off 7pm. Victory will reward the winners with a home tie against Mickleover Sports or Chesterfield in the Third Round to be completed by 6th December. GORMAN TO GET THE NOD?

All pointers indicated that John Gorman would be the new Manager of Wycombe although there was no announcement of a press conference as of 5pm on Friday 31st October. The Scot emerged as red hot favourite to take the post at Wycombe after he proved a 'breath of fresh air' at the Club, according to players, Club officials and supporters alike.

STRIKER SEARCH

Terry Gibson has been keeping himself busy by spying on Cheshunt striker Darryl Cox according to the Bucks Free Press. Gibbo was at their recent game against Wivenhoe where he saw the 24 year old come on as substitute with Cheshunt trailing 3-0 and promptly bagged a hat-trick in a 6-3 victory. Gibson told the BFP “He’s worth another look and I’d quite to get him down here so we can have a look at him training”. It's also been reported that former Argentina U21 international striker Jorge Mazzina has been training with the Wanderers. |

The Wanderers' Board met on Thursday evening (30th October) to decide on who will be the next Manager. John Gorman emerged as a firm favourite after originally being brought in on a purely temporary basis. The final interviews took place earlier on Thursday. |

ROGERS BACK FOR CANADA

Defender Mark Rogers has been provisionally called up by Canada for friendlies against the Czech Republic in Teplice on Saturday 15th November and the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Tuesday 18th November. If Rogers makes the final squad to be announced on 10th November in would be his first international call-up since he picked up a bronze medal in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in February 2002. |

B&B DEFEAT TO CHESHAM
(Tuesday 28th October 2003)
A Wanderers XI missed two penalties as they lost 3-2 at Chesham United in the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup on Tuesday evening. The home side took a 10th minute lead through Paul Aldridge but Andy Bell equalised within a minute. Richard Harris and then Bell saw their spot-kicks saved before Charlie Mapes gave Wanderers the lead a minute after the break. COTTERILL NO TO TOWN

Cheltenham Town have issued a statement ruling out the return of Steve Cotterill to his former club. Cotterill left Town for Stoke City in May 2002 but says it's too early for a return despite being out of work for a year. However, Cotterill, who has been connected with the vacant Wycombe job, has recommended somebody to Cheltenham but Town are keen to point out that this is not Cotterill's 'great friend', Lawrie Sanchez. |

MANAGER SHORT LIST

Tony Adams is the name that has got the press drooling as they continue to speculate on who the next boss at Wycombe will be. 37 year old Adams is apparently on the short list of around eight names being interviewed this week which also includes Terry Gibson, John Ward and current caretaker boss John Gorman. However, Nigel Clough, Steve Cotterill, Stuart Gray and Steve Parkin are not thought to be in contention. |

With speculation hotting up over who the next Wanderers boss will be, the Wycombe Wanderers Board have been questioned over their decision in August 2002 to extend Lawrie Sanchez's contract until May 2005. The question was posed to the Board at the Fans Forum held on Monday 20th October 2003.

MANAGER SPECULATION

Speculation on who wil be the new Wycombe Manager is hotting with the national press adding Nigel Clough, Tony Adams and ex-Southampton boss Stuart Gray to the melting pot. However, it's understood that Clough, currently Manager at Burton Albion, is not on the short list to be interviewed this week while Gray is also in the running for the Manager's job at Brighton along with Leroy Rosenior and Iain Dowie. |

GIBBO ON THE LIST

Current Wanderers' Assistant Terry Gibson is on the short list for the vacant Manager's role and is set to be interviewed this Tuesday. Gibson has been kept away from First Team matchday duties in the interim period and has been sent out scouting for potential players to be brought in on loan. |

SWINDON HOME IN FA CUP

Wycombe were drawn at home to Swindon Town in the First Round Proper of the FA Cup when the draw was made on Saturday. The fairly unglamorous tie will be played on Saturday 8th November. Three other ties will be chosen for live TV coverage (1 BBC and 2 Sky), with each club involved receiving a £50,000 broadcast fee. Winners of all ties will get £12,500. Wanderers drew 1-1 in their first ever visit to Victoria Park on Saturday to play 7th placed Hartlepool United. In another encouraging performance by Wycombe, Darren Currie gave Wanderers a third minute lead but the home side equalised just before the break through Michael Barron. The Under 17's came back twice against Portsmouth to draw 2-2 in the Umbro Isotonic Youth Alliance at Molins Sports Ground on Saturday morning. Glenn Hoddle is reported to be coming to help out his former assistant John Gorman for one day next week. A report in the national press suggests that the ex-England and Spurs Manager will spend a day coaching with The Wanderers squad ahead of Gorman's final few days as caretaker boss at Adams Park. |

MANAGER SHORT LIST

Wanderers' Chairman Ivor Beeks has told the local press that the short list for the next Manager at the Club is down to eight and that interviews will be completed before John Gorman's caretaker role ends on 1st November. The full list has not been revealed but Gorman is obviously in the hunt for the job and will be favourite if he can pull results out from the trips to Hartlepool and Swindon. Other names in the frame include Terry Gibson and John Ward but former Millwall boss Mark McGhee has not applied according to comments from the Chairman. |

FA YOUTH CUP VICTORY

Wanderers' Under 18's beat Chalfont St.Peter 3-0 on Wednesday evening in the First Round Proper of the FA Youth Cup. On a difficult surface, Wanderers' goals came from Mark Boland, Matt Heggie and Leon Gordon. In Round Two Wycombe will be at home to Swindon Town, whose Youth Team are managed by former Wanderer Viv Busby. The tie has been arranged for Wednesday 5th November, kick-off 7pm at Adams Park. RESERVES LOSE AT COLU

Wanderers' Reserves went down 2-1 to Colchester United at Layer Road in the Pontin's Holiday Combination. Marc Philo put Wycombe into the lead after just five minutes but despite dominating for large periods, Wanderers allowed The U's back in with an equaliser midway through the 2nd half and then a winner in injury time. Wanderers registered a long overdue victory with a resounding 3-0 success over Bristol City at Adams Park. City had been reduced to ten men before Gavin Holligan opened the scoring for Wanderers on 40 minutes. Holligan added a second on 68 minutes and after another red card for City, Jermaine McSporran capped the victory with goal of the evening in stoppage time.

AGM & FORUM IN BRIEF

The Football Club AGM took place on Monday evening with, as expected, Director Alan Parry gaining re-election to the Board. Parry gained 187 votes from the 242 members in attendance with Alun Crockford getting 28 and Nigel Roland 27. A Fans Forum followed the AGM where close to 400 supporters aired their views on a variety of subjects. Reports to follow. |

BRANSTON RECALL U-TURN

Rotherham have made a U-turn on their intention to recall centre-half Guy Branston from the Wanderers. The Millers defensive crisis appeared to worsen at the weekend with the loss of Shaun Barker through injury but he is expected to recover in time for their midweek meeting with Sunderland. With Martin McIntosh and Julian Baudet suspended, Millers boss Ronnie Moore originally said Branston would be brought back for one to three games but he had now agreed to release Branston for another month but they have a 24 hour recall option and he will not be allowed to play in Wanderers' FA Cup games. |

YT LOANED TO BASINGSTOKE

Wanderers' Third Year Scholar Matty Warner has joined Ryman League side Basingstoke Town on a month long work experience deal. 18 year old Warner, who has been with Wycombe since he was 12 years old, made his 'Stoke' debut in their 2-2 draw with Kettering Town on Saturday at The Camrose.

YOUTH TEAM UPDATE
(Saturday 18th October 2003)
The Under 17's registered a 3-2 victory over Leyton Orient in the Umbro Isotonic Youth Alliance at Molins Sports Ground on Saturday morning. Wanderers took the lead with a 24th minute headed own goal and James Faulkner doubled the lead eight minutes later with a strike from the right flank. The O's pulled a goal back on 50 minutes but Faulkner restored the two goal advantage via a penalty on 57 minutes following a foul on Josh Gibson. PLYMOUTH AWAY IN LDV

Wanderers have been drawn away to Plymouth Argyle in the 2nd Round of the LDV Vans Trophy. The tie at Home Park will be played the week commencing 3rd November and will be the first game after John Gorman's caretaker role is due to expire. Plymouth were Gorman's first opponents when the two clubs met in a Division Two fixture on 4th October.

McGHEE JOINS THE LIST

Ousted Millwall boss Mark McGhee has been added to the growing list of candidates for the Manager's job at Wycombe. The former Reading, Leicester and Wolves chief had been with Millwall for three seasons before being sacked and has even been talked up by the Wanderers' Chairman Ivor Beeks via the Bucks Free Press. "His record in Division Two is excellent. He got Millwall promoted and he has done very well in Division One." commented The Wanderers' Chairman and added "Where we are the moment, I think, we need someone who has got some experience of League management" |

BRANSTON TO STAY
(Friday 17th October 2003)
Guy Branston looks likely to stay with Wycombe for at least another month. The on loan Rotherham defender will see his initial one month loan term expire after Saturday's game with Barnsley but Branston told the Bucks Free Press “I’ve been offered the extra month at Wycombe and I want to sign it as soon as Rotherham give me the OK”. However, Branston could be temporarily recalled by The Millers to cover their injury and suspension problems, which would mean missing Wanderers' clash with Bristol City on Tuesday 21st October. |

SANCHEZ IN THE HUNT

Sacked Wanderers' boss Lawrie Sanchez has told BBC Sport he's applying for the vacant Manager's posts at Northern Ireland and Millwall. Sanchez, who gained three Northern Ireland caps as a player, said "International management is something that I would very much be interested in talking about." RESERVES THRASH SHOTS

Wanderers' Reserves thrashed a young Aldershot Town side by 5-1 in the Pontin's Holidays Combination League Cup. The victory came after Wycombe had fallen behind to 5th minute goal from the home side. However, Stuart Roberts levelled on 15 minutes before Jonny Dixon scored from a penalty at the start of the 2nd half to make it 2-1. Gavin Holligan added the third on 59 minutes from Luke Oliver's knock on while Dixon got his second on 70 minutes with a good finish. The rout was completed on 78 minutes when Holligan converted with a clever chip. Wanderers struggled their way into the Second Round of the LDV Vans Trophy with a narrow victory over Cambridge United at Adams Park in front of just 977 spectators. FANS FORUM POST AGM

The Club have released details of an open 'Fans Forum' to follow the Football Club AGM on Monday 20th October. It is estimated that the forum will start in the Vere Suite at Adams Park at around 8.45pm and entrance will be free and open to all. HUNT THE MANAGER

Wanderers have now received close to 50 applications for the vacant Manager’s position. The speculative list now includes Steve Perryman, Lou Macari, Jan Molby, Brian Little, Graham Rix, Steve Cotterill, John Ward and Keith Scott. Former Wanderers’ boss John Gregory has claimed via the local press that he has not applied for the job but has spoken to Chairman Ivor Beeks and recommended a couple of names. |

Chairman Ivor Beeks has revealed to the Bucks Free Press that Lawrie Sanchez's gesture to the fans at the Oldham game influenced his decision to sack him just four days later. He was quoted as saying “It got to a point where his relationship with the supporters was pretty difficult and this business with the ears was the last resort to be honest.” Ironically the Chairman had missed the Oldham game due to a holiday and only returned to the UK because of a Football League EGM.

Caretaker boss John Gorman got another chance to view some of his squad members in match action when Wanderers' Reserves went down 2-1 to Reading in a Pontin's Holiday Combination match at Adams Park. Jonny Dixon gave Wanderers the lead in the 5th minute but the visitors hit back to lead at the break with two goals from Darius Henderson. Andy Bell impressed in the second-half but Wanderers could not force an equaliser. AGM RE-ELECTION SHOCK

A Wanderers' Director will be forced to stand for re-election for the first time in 14 years at the Club's AGM due to be held on Monday 20th October. SUCCESS FOR EX-YT BOSS

Former Wanderers' Youth Team Manager Gary Goodchild saw his Viking Stavanger side triumph 8-0 against Tromsø in the final of Norwegian FA Youth Cup at the weekend. It was a record victory in the final of the competition and the first time Viking had won the competition since 1995. Goodchild, who was delighted with the victory, left Wanderers in December 2001. |

COPPELL FOR ROYALS

Press speculation proved correct as Steve Coppell was announced as Reading's new manager. Coppell walked out on Brighton to take the job with The Royals. Meanwhile, Wanderers' outward going manager, Lawrie Sanchez, is taking a break in the sun. He told the press “I’ll take a week off to recharge my batteries, will hopefully settle up amicably with Wycombe and then I’ll update my CV and send it round to any clubs out there looking for minor miracles.” |

Wanderers' U19's continued their poor run of results with a 2-1 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday. Meanwhile, the U17's drew 1-1 at home to Rushden and Diamonds. Chalfont St. Peter will host Wycombe in the First Round of the FA Youth Cup after they came back from 2-0 down to beat Canvey Island 4-2 after extra-time in the Third Qualifying Round. Terry Gibson says he is a bit down after not being offered the chance to take temporary charge of the team for Saturday's match with Plymouth Argyle at Adams Park. He and Peter Cawley were in line for their chance before Chairman opted for John Gorman. Gibson told the Bucks Free Press "I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed but I'm certainly not going to throw the toys out of the pram.. On the subject of the departure Lawrie Sanchez, he added "I'm gutted he's gone because he was my best mate in football. He performed miracles for this club and I'm upset with the way it ended" |

Wanderers have already received at least 15 applications for the vacant Manager's position but have announced John Gorman as temporary boss up to and including 1st November. It's also come to light that Lawrie Sanchez was informed of his imminent departure by last Wednesday (24th September) following discussions with the Chairman but didn't let on to the players until after the final whistle at Tranmere. |

Former Wanderers' Manager John Gregory has said he is interested in a return to the hot seat at Adams Park according to reports from media in the Derbyshire area. JG spent 16 months at Wycombe before being poached by Aston Villa for the Manager's position at Villa Park. He has since gone on to manage Derby County before leaving in controversial circumstances. WARD TO APPLY FOR JOB

John Ward, the former Bristol City, Bristol Rovers and York City Manager, will apply for the vacant role at Wycombe according to local press reports in Wolverhampton. The 52 year old was alledged to have turned down the Wycombe job before Lawrie Sanchez was appointed in February 1999. He has since gone on to be assistant with Wolves and is currently coaching at Carlisle United.

Former Cheltenham Town Manager Steve Cotterill becomes an obvious candidate for the now vacant Manager's role at Adams Park. Cotterill, a good friend of Lawrie Sanchez, hit the headlines when he moved to Stoke City and then onto Sunderland as assistant to Howard Wilkinson.
