Youth Team update YOUTHS LOSE TO PARAGUAY

A Wanderers Youth Team went down 2-0 in their prestigious pre-season friendly against the Paraguay Under 19 side on Thursday afternoon at Bisham Abbey. Triallists Steve Dell and Barrie Matthews appeared for the Wanderers. Gavin Holligan HOLLIGAN INJURED

Gavin Holligan has been hit with another injury blow after pulling up with what looked like a groin strain in Tuesday's friendly with West Ham. First estimates from the Club say he will be out of action for around six weeks. This latest set-back comes after the 23 year old striker made just one start for Wycombe in 2002/3 when a cartilage injury suffered in pre-season training kept him sidelined until February 2003.

Wycombe ran out comfortable 3-1 winners in the friendly game with West Ham United at Adams Park on Tuesday evening. Gavin Holligan and Roger Johnson scored for the Wanderers early on before Fredi Kanoute replyed for the visitors. Lewis Cook added Wycombe's third towards the end.

Rugby at Adams Park RUGBY - IS IT LEGAL?

The 'Legal Inquiry' into the lawfulness of whether Rugby can be played at Adams Park under the original planning permission was heard at Wycombe Council offices on Tuesday. An independent inspector from Bristol heard the case but a decision will not be made until the week commencing 22nd September. It's understood that the Club have spent a signficant amount of money on hiring a legal team to fight their case.

There was an Open Day at Adams Park on Sunday 27th July. Supporters were given the chance to see the players training, meet some of the staff and take a guided tour of the ground, including visits to the dressing room and board room.

The pre-season friendlies continued with a low key game game at Aylesbury United. Wycombe finished 3-0 victors in a match which was split into three 30 minutes periods. Darren Currie, Charlie Mapes and Simon Patterson got the goals.

Matchday LEE JOINS MAIDENHEAD

Former Wanderers' midfielder Martyn Lee has joined Ryman League side Maidenhead United after deciding to turn his back on the full-time game. The 22 year old, who left Wycombe in May, admitted he hadn't been enjoying his football at Wycombe. Martyn Lee joins Maidenhead - read more

Crowd leaving Adams Park CAR PARK PLANS APPROVED

Wycombe District Council Development Control gave a unanimous vote in favour of allowing the Club to lay additional hard standing on the upper car-park at Adams Park following a meeting on Wednesday evening (23rd July). The permission is temporary until May 2004 and will allow the full capacity of 600 to be used even in wet weather conditions. The hard standing will be stoned based and laid on a membrane to help protect the underlying surface which is adjacent to Green Belt and AONB.

Football League Chairman Sir Brian Mawhinney is calling on Football League clubs to be more "transparent" in their financial dealings and also aims to promote "good governance" amongst member clubs. Mawhinney, who sits alongside Wanderers' Chairman Ivor Beeks on the Football League Board, was being interviewed in the July 2003 Newsletter of Supporters-Direct.

Mystery STRIKER COMING ON LOAN

It's now confirmed that Wycombe have sign ex-Watford Accademy striker Simon Patterson on a three month loan. At 6ft4in, Patterson, fits the 'big front man' mould that Lawrie Sanchez is so keen to fill. The Harrow based player who is 21 in September had a short spell on loan at Slough Town last season but has yet to break in the First Team at Vicarage Road.

Lawrie Sanchez says he is intending on utilising wider formations for the forthcoming season. After the 3-2 defeat to Spurs on Saturday he said ”We’ve worked an awful lot on crossing. We are going to try and play with two out and out wingers this season. It is important we get crosses in and both our goals came from crosses.”
Tickets TICKET SALES CREEPING UP

The Club have reported that Season Ticket sales have moved to just under the 2,900 mark with two weeks to go before the season gets under. The figure represents a slight downturn on sales compared to the same time last season. However, it's hoped that a final rush before the season kick's off will bring the figure closer to last season's total of 3,500.
Keith Ryan RHINO OUT FOR OPENER

It's been revealed that Keith Ryan will miss the start of the season due to a hernia operation scheduled for later this week. It's been estimated that 'Rhino' will be out of action for six to eight weeks as a result of the op. However, there is better news in that it's now hoped that both Frank Talia and Jonny Dixon will make the start of the Football League campaign on 9th August.

Striker Jonny Dixon is now hoping to make it back for the start of the season after surgery to investigate a blood flow problem in his legs did not show up anything. The 19 year old will return to training after a settling period and could now be available for the start of the Football League season when Wycombe take on Stockport County at Adams Park on 9th August. An entertaining game in sweltering heat at Adams Park saw Wanderers lose 3-2 to a star studded Spurs side brought down for Dave Jones Testimoinial. Wycombe's goals came though Richard Harris and Youth Teamer Billy Harding.

Matchday BEASANT STANDS IN

Wanderers will field former Wimbledon 'keeper Dave Beasant in Saturday's Dave Jones Testimonial game against Spurs. The 44 year old steps in to replace the injured Frank Talia. It was hoped that Martin Taylor could make it back for this game but he had a previous commitment to play for Telford United. Wanderers will field four triallists as detailed in earlier news this week.

Karl Ready, the former QPR defender who had joined Wycombe for pre-season training, has left the Club and headed for China in search of new football career. In the meantime, Lawrie Sanchez is said to be on the look out for a stand-in striker to cover for the injured Jonny Dixon and Craig Faulconbridge, although the Wycombe boss also says that this is the chance for Gavin Holligan to make his mark.

Mystery FOUR MORE TRIALLISTS

Wanderers are hoping to field four triallists in Saturday's game against Spurs at Adams Park. They are 19 year old Luke Fontana, a 6' 5" striker who played briefly with Kingstonian last season; Will Antwi, a 20 year old central defender and former Crystal Palace trainee released at the end of last season; Barrie Matthews, a 20 year old full back and former Watford trainee and Beaconsfield SYCOB defender Steve Dell who appeared on trial in a Wycombe shirt last season.

It's been revealed Wanderers' first choice 'keeper Frank Talia could miss the start of the Football League after undergoing a cartilage related operation during the summer. Talia, who is 31 on 20th July, is likely to miss the four pre-season friendlies and will be borderline to start the league opener on 9th August.

Jermaine McSporran JOCKY BACK SOON

Better news on the injury after it was reported that Jermaine McSporran has returned to full training and hopes to play against Spurs in Dave Jones Testimonial this Saturday (19th July). 'Jocky' made just six starts last season after recovering from a cruciate operation following a training injury in April 2002.

Jonny Dixon JD INJURY BLOW

Wycombe have received an injury set-back with news that 19 year old striker Jonny Dixon will miss the start of the season after being forced into surgery. Dixon has been diagnosed with a blood circulation problem and he is due for an operation on Wednesday that could see him out for around four months. Scotty SCOTTY JOINS DAGGERS

Former Wanderers' striker Keith Scott has joined last season's Conference play-off finalists Dagenham & Redbridge. The 36 year old finished the 2002/3 season at Leigh RMI after starting the campaign at Scarborough. Scotty scored 98 goals in 208 appearances in two spells for Wycombe in the 1990's.

Matchday LEAGUE COMMITTEE MEETING

Southend United Director Ronald Martin has joined Wanderers' Chairman Ivor Beeks on the Football League Board. Martin, who replaces the Leyton Orient's Barry Hearn, was elected in time to sit on the July Board meeting on the 10th. Included on the agenda was the latest situation regarding Luton Town. On Thursday (10th July) and Friday (11th July) there was a public exhibition of the latest proposals regarding matchday parking at Adams Park. The exhibition was held in the Vere Suite and ran from 10am to 8pm. On Tuesday 15th July starting at 7pm in the Keen Lounge there will be a Sands Residents meeting where the latest situation on the Travel Plan will be discussed. View info from Bucks County Council
Danny Murhpy MURPHY OPTS FOR SWINDON

Wycombe have missed out on the signing of former QPR left-back Danny Murphy. The 20 year old, who had been training with the Wanderers in the pre-season build-up, opted to join Swindon Town on a month to month contract after the Withshire club came up with a better offer than Wycombe.

The Bucks Free Press are claiming that London Wasps will get a cut of the sponsorship money from the Adams Park naming rights deal. An unconfirmed figure of "less than £10,000" has been mentioned in what is likely to be a sweetener to cover their costs of changing club and associated literature promoting home games at Adams Park. Meanwhile, the Club have remained tight lipped over any financial details of the deal.

Mark West WESTY IS BOSS

Former Wanderers' goalscoring legend Mark West has been given his first Managerial role - taking over the helm at Thame United. The 37 year old replaces Andy Sinnott who resigned last week. West, who scored 171 goals in 381 appearances for Wycombe before leaving at the end of the 1993/94 season, has been playing at Thame for the past two seasons.

Mark Rogers has just missed out on being called up for the 18 man Canadian squad to compete in this year's CONCACAF Gold Cup taking place between 12th and 27th July in the USA. The Wanderers defender picked up a bronze medal playing in last years tournament but an injury affected 2002/3 campaign meant his chances of impressing for selection were minimised. Iain Hume (Tranmere), Jason Bent (Plymouth), Jason deVos (Wigan) and Spurs Goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld are the only players in the squad from English based teams.

Wanderers' squad are due to step up from part-time training as the pre-season campaign approaches. Before then Lawrie Sanchez is likely to be forced to make a decision on whether to retain triallists Karl Ready, Danny Murphy and Steve Dell. Matchday RUSHDEN NO CHANGE

Wanderers Division Two game at Rushden on Saturday 6th September is set to go ahead with a 3pm kick-off as originally planned. There were concerns that the kick-off would be moved to avoid a clash with England's Euro 2004 qualifying match against Macedonia on the same day. However, the England game has been scheduled for a 5.30pm start and The Diamonds have not seen fit to make a change.

News CHIEF SCOUT GOING?

Earlier suggestions that Wanderers' Chief Scout Alan Fogarty will not be retained by the Club for the forthcoming season have been ruled out by sources close to the Club. Fogarty is responsible for preparing a number of reports on potential players for Manager Lawrie Sanchez and although the vast majority were either not followed up or came to nothing, the Club are said to be delighted with his services.
