Background: A former trainee with Southend United who made his senior debut for The Shrimps in a Football League Trophy game with Cheltenham Town on 7th December 1999. Johnson had to wait until 30th September 2000 for his next senior appearance and Football League debut when he came on a substitute in United's 'Division Three' 1-0 victory at Rochdale. Went on to gain a regular place in the Southend side that season and the next before a free transfer to then 'Division One' side Gillingham in the summer of 2002. Made more than a 100 appearances for The Gills before his free transfer to Wycombe by Paul Lambert in June 2007.

A regular in his first season at Wycombe and earned the Player of the Season award for his efforts. Went on to sign a one year extension to his contract in January 2009 under then Manager Peter Taylor that ran until June 2010. This was further extended until June 2011 following Wanderers promotion to 'League One' in May 2009. Suffered an injury hit 2009/10 season as Wanderers were relegated back to 'League Two' but fought his way back into the side under another new boss, Gary Waddock, earning another two year contract extension in May 2011 following Wanderers' promotion back to 'League One'.

Although born in England, Johnson qualifed to play for Grenada through his father and on 20 May 2011, he was included in the Grenada squad for the 2011 Gold Cup played in June 2011. Johnson played in all three of Grenada's games in the group stage, but the team was eliminated from the tournament after three defeats.

Saw his contract extended by a further year at Wycombe, until June 2014, agreed in July 2013 but was released by Gareth Ainsworth at the end of the 2013/14 season, with his final appearance coming in the dramatic final day at Torquay on 3rd May 2014.
