DAN SCARR RETURNS TO AP
(Wednesday 30th August 2017)
Wanderers continued their foray into the loan market with the arrival of Birmingham City defender Dan Scarr in a deal running until 1st January 2018. Scarr should be familiar to Wanderers’ fans having scored for former Club Stourbridge in the 3rd Round FA Cup tie at Adams Park in January 2017. His goal at Adams Park bought him the attention that finally persuaded City to take the then 23 year old a two and half year deal. Scarr has been allocated No.28 in the Wanderers squad. It’s unknown at this stage whether he will be allowed to play in FA Cup ties with Wanderers.
QPR YOUNGSTER ON LOANEE
(Wednesday 30th August 2017)
Wanderers made another move into the loan market on Wednesday 30th August with the signing of 19 year old midfielder Eberechi Eze from Queens Park Rangers. The two clubs have agreed a deal running until 2nd January 2018. The London born player was originally part of the youth set-up with Arsenal, before time with Fulham and Millwall. He signed for Rangers in August 2016 from Millwall on a one year deal but this was extended until June 2020 after bagging nine goals in fourteen appearances for the Rangers U23 side. His solitary First Team appearance for QPR to date was an appearance in their 2-1 home defeat to Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup in January 2017 – however, his time was cut to just 18 minutes due to injury. He has also been called up to Nigerian national side. He has been allocated the 27 in the Wanderers squad and been given permission to play in Football League Trophy matches but not the FA Cup during his time at Adams Park.
PAUL HAYES DEPARTS
(Tuesday 29th August 2017)
Striker Paul Hayes departed the Club by ‘mutual consent’ on Tuesday 29th August. The shock news was announced shortly after Wanderers’ 5-1 home defeat to Bristol Rovers in the Football League Trophy. Originally joining Wycombe on loan from Charlton Athletic in 2012, he returned to Adams Park on a permanent deal in May 2014 having spent time with Brentford and Scunthorpe United in the intervening years. His final record with Wanderers was played 126 – scoring 15 times. His two goals against Spurs in the FA Cup 4th Round tie at White Hart Lane in January 2017 will go down in Wycombe folklore. Hayes commented: “The club has meant a lot to me and I’ve worn the badge with pride."
WYCOMBE 1 BRISTOL ROVERS 5
(Tuesday 29th August 2017)
Wanderers were thrashed 5-1 at home by Bristol Rovers in the opening group game of the Football League Trophy at Adams Park. A team with six changes from the starting XI that had won at Grimsby the previous Saturday took the lead on 5 minutes when Dayle Southwell nodded home from close range. However, the visitors hit back four minutes later with an equaliser through Dom Telford and led at the break after the same player netted on 42 minutes. Further goals from from Ryan Broom (54 and 85) and Liam Sercombe (63) made it a miserable evening for the Wycombe fans in the sparse attendance of 1,132. Swindon Town and West Ham U23's are Wycombe's opponents in the remaining group games.
Wycombe: Brown, Harriman, Jombati, El-Abd (sub 60 Stewart), Williams, Gape, O’Nien, Bean, Southwell (sub 71 Cowan-Hall), Freeman, Umerah - subs not used: Richardson, Jacobson, Bloomfield, Akinfenwa, Mackail-Smith - 1,132 (66 away)
Final Score: Wycombe 1 Bristol Rovers 5
ANOTHER NEW LOANEE
(Tuesday 29th August 2017)
With transfer deadline day approaching, the Club confirmed on 29th August the loan signing of 19 year old striker Josh Umerah from Charlton Athletic. A deal with Charlton has been agreed until 15th January 2018. Umerah has been with Charlton since the age of 10 and was top scorer for their U18 side when they won the Professional Development League 2 for season 2014/15. He had made seven senior appearances prior to his loan move to Wycombe (all as substitute). He made his Charlton debut as a sub in the Championship game away to Hull City on 16 January 2016. He then had to wait until August 2016 for a further chance from the bench and made one further substitute appearance before a loan deal to Kilmarnock in February 2017. He made four substitute appearances for the Scottish Premiership side before returning to The Valley. He was allocated No.26 in the Wanderers squad and made available for Wanderers Football League Trophy tie at home to Bristol Rovers later on the day the loan deal was agreed.
GRIMSBY 2 WYCOMBE 3
(Saturday 26th August 2017)
Wanderers recorded a second successive away victory after a thrilling 3-2 win over Grimsby Town. Adebayo Akinfenwa fired Wycombe into a 28th minute and Joe Jacobson made it 2-0 from the penalty on 43 minutes after Danny Collins was adjudged to have hand-balled in the area. However, the home side rallied after the break following a change in formation and reduced the deficit on 51 minutes when Anthony Stewart was deemed to have fouled Collins in the Grimsby box and Mitch Rose converted from the spot past Scott Brown. Collins was sent-off on 58 minutes for a second bookable offence on Matt Bloomfield but despite one man disadvantage, levelled on 65 minutes when JJ Hooper rifled home from 25 yards. It would have been no surpise then for the home side to take all three points but it was Wanderers who stepped up a gear and a Michael Harriman cross on 75 minutes saw Akinfenwa pull off his trademark headed goal at the far post. The result saw Wycombe rise to 8th in the table.
Wycombe: Brown, Jacobson, Harriman, Stewart, El-Abd, Gape, Bloomfield (sub 64 Bean), O'Nien, Akinfenwa, Cowan-Hall (sub 73 Freeman), Mackail-Smith (sub 72 Southwell) - subs not used: Jombati, Richardson, Williams - 4,016 (187 away)

The Club confirmed on 22nd August that defender Max Müller had agreed a loan deal with Morecambe running until 2nd January 2018. The 23 year old signed for Wanderers in August 2016, eventually making his debut, following injury, in December 2016. He made a further 11 appearances before the end of the 2016/17 campaign but made just a solitary appearance in 2017/18 (League Cup versus Fulham) before Manager Gareth Ainsworth opted for the loan deal with the fellow League Two club.
WYCOMBE 2 NOTTS COUNTY 4
(Saturday 19th August 2017)
Wanderers conceeded twice inside the final six minutes as they went down 4-2 to Notts County at Adams Park. Wycombe were 2-0 down by the 15th minute after Richard Duffy's glanced header and an unfortunate Luke O'Nien own goal from Adam El-Abd's clearance left Wanderers rattled. However, Gareth Ainsworth's side pulled the scores level after the break with goals from Nick Freeman (49 minutes) and Joe Jacobson (68) and then had chances to win the game before defensive relapses saw goals from Jonathan Forte and Lewis Alessandra spoil the day for Wycombe.
Wycombe: Brown, Harriman, Jombati, El-Abd, Jacobson, Gape, O’Nien, Bloomfield (sub 87 Williams), Southwell (sub HT Freeman), Akinfenwa, Hayes (sub HT Mackail-Smith) - subs not used: Richardson, Stewart, Bean, Muller - 3,785 (375 away)

The Club confirmed the signing of former Luton Town striker Craig Mackail-Smith on Thursday 17th August. The 33 year old signed a one year deal after being released by The Hatters in the summer. He has clocked up over 500 senior appearances in a career stretching back to his time with then Isthmian League St Albans City. His most prolific spell came at Peterborough United where he scored 99 goals in 212 First Team appearances. He has been allocated number 25 in the Wanderers squad.
PORT VALE 2 WYCOMBE 3
(Saturday 12th August 2017)

Gareth Ainsworth's side were 3-0 up by the 25th minute thanks to a brace from Adebayo Akinfenwa sandwiched around a Paris Cowan-Hall strike. However, the home side scored on 88 minutes through Turner and then again on 90 minutes via Whitfield to set the nerves on edge for the Wycombe following.

WYCOMBE 2 LINCOLN 2
(Saturday 5th August 2017)
Wanderers had to settle for a point from a 2-2 draw with Lincoln City at Adams Park on the opening day of the 2017/18 Football League season. The visitors, playing their first Football League game for more than six years, took the lead on 31 minutes when Matt Green tapped home Nathan Arnold's assist. However, Wycombe responded six minutes later when Luke O'Nein nodded home following a Joe Jacobson free-kick. Three minutes later it was a Jacobson effort from 25 yards that went skimmed past the Lincoln wall and visiting 'keeper Paul Farman. But the visitors, backed by a large away following, levelled four minutes into the second-half when Josh Ginnelly slotted past Scott Brown. Gareth Ainsworth gave a full Wycombe debut to new signing Adam El-Abd, while striker Nathan Tyson made his first appearance since re-signing for Wanderers in the close-season. The attendance of 5,538 was Wycombe's highest opening day turn-out since 8,400 witnessed the Leeds United match at Adams Park on 15th August 2009.
