Background:
Forward who originally joined Wanderers on loan from Charlton Athletic in February 2012, scoring twice on his debut and totalling six goals in six appearances before being recalled by Charlton. Went on to sign for Brentford in the summer of 2012 on a three year deal but eventually found his way back to Scunthorpe in December 2013 following loan deals at Crawley and Plymouth.

Started his football career as a schoolboy with Norwich City. As a 17 year old he was part of the First Team squad at Carrow Road but failed to feature as The Canaries won promotion to the Premier League via the Play-offs at the end of the 2001/2 season. He went on to join Scunthorpe United in December 2002 after having his Norwich contract cancelled. He would go on to make more than 100 appearances for Iron, scoring 34 times, including a goal against Chelsea in a Third Round FA Cup match in January 2005.

In the summer of 2005, Hayes switched to Barnsley, where he was a regular again in a two year spell before returning to Scunthorpe - this time for a three year spell - scoring 40 goals in close to 150 appearances. Another move happened at the end of the 2009/10 season when he signed a three year deal with Preston North End - however, after a initial scoring flurry, he struggled to find the net and eventually saw his contract terminated in June 2011 following interest from Charlton Athletic.

It was during his time with Charlton that Hayes was loaned to Wycombe - joining in February 2012 at the same time as fellow teammate at The Valley Gary Doherty. His recall by Charlton probably cost Wycombe any chance of staying in League One that season. Despite his recall in March 2012, he made just two further appearances for Charlton that season and was joined Brentford on a free the following August.

Completely fell out of favour at Brentford under Manager Uwe Rösler and after loan spells at Crawley Town and Plymouth, returned again to Scunthorpe in December 2013 where he would remain until rejoined Wanderers on a permament two year deal in the summer of 2014 following his release from The Iron.
