CANADIAN JOINS ON TRIAL

Niall Thompson - picture Paul Dennis Former Crystal Palace trainee
and Canadian International Niall Thompson has joined Wycombe on a month's trial. The 26 year old midfielder/striker spent last season with Scottish First Division side Airdrie where he made 26 appearances and scored five goals, including a hat-trick against Inverness.
Although born in Birmingham, Thompson has played for the Canadian national team, including the game in Winnpeg against Panama in October 2000, where he came on as an 80th minute substitute for Oldham striker Carlo C
orazzin - the same game that marked the international debut for Mark Rogers. That game was his first international appearance for over two years, having made his debut in 1993. Thompson has totalled nine World Cup appearances for Canada, including an appearance against Brazil in 1996.
The 5'11" player began his professional career as a trainee with Crystal Palace but after failing to break into the First Team moved to Colchester United during the 1994/95 season where he scored five goals in 13 League appearances for the Essex club. His fragmented career saw him move to Belgium in season 1996/1997 where he played for Division Two side FC Zulte VV. Then, following a  a spell in the States for Seattle Sounders he returned to England where he made 8 League appearances for Brentford during the1997/98 season.
His most recent club has been Bay Area Seals of San Francisco in the American A-League, scoring 2 goals in 5 appearances. His Canadian connections also include a spell with Vancouver 86ers in the 1998/99 season, where he scored 20 goals in 23 apps.
Update November 2000
Thompson made his first appearance for Wycombe in the Reserve game with Southend on Wednesday 1st November and went onto make his First Team debut in the home game with Bury on Saturday 11th November. After two more appearances, Thompson was given a month's extension to his trial that will run up to and including the home game with Swansea on 23rd December.
