Background: Glasgow born 'keeper who starting his professional playing career with Albion Rovers in the Scottish League. During his time there he is credited with scoring a 94th minute scrambled equalising goal for Albion against Queen's Park in a League meeting at Hampden Park on 8th February 2003. Shearer moved south of the border at the end of the that campaign to play for Coventry City where he was a regular for The Sky Blues during the 2003/4 season. Injured during the opening months of the following season and eventually loaned out to Rushden and Diamonds for a three month loan spell in February 2005. Signed on a free for Bristol Rovers in the summer of 2005, becoming a mainstay in the Rovers side the following season. Fell out of favour at Rovers during the 2006/7 season, culminating in a long term loan spell with Shrewsbury Town. Played in The Shrews play-off semi-final success that season but was prevented from playing in the Final against Bristol Rovers due to contractual issues.
Signed a three year deal with the Wanderers in June 2007. Manager Paul Lambert said at the time, "I've been looking at Scott for a long time. When I was a player at Celtic he came to us on trial and all the lads were impressed by his ability. I've followed his career since and I think we've landed a very good keeper."
