What we think: The records show that Fred 'Sunny' Rouse was Wycombe's first professional player. As Wycombe were an Amateur side, some players signed pro terms with League clubs while still remaining tied to their amateur side. Rouse signed pro with Southern League side Shepherd's Bush but eventually moved into League football with Grimsby Town. In two seasons at Wycombe he scored 30 goals including a goal in the final of 1902 Berks and Bucks Senior Cup against Slough Town and this was during a time when The Chairboys leaked 68 goals during 16 games in 1900/01. His Football League career included a spell at Chelsea but 'Sunny' is best noted for his goalscoring feats during a four year spell with Stoke City following his £150 move from Grimsby.
