What we think: Signed permanently by John Gregory after a brief loan spell from Bradford. His career before Wycombe had seen the former Middlesbrough trainee in £330,000 move to Leicester followed by a £225,000 transfer to Valley Parade. His displays in the centre of the Wycombe defence made him a crowd favourite at Adams Park but he seemed to lose interest under the managership of Neil Smillie. Originally rumoured to be going to Scunthorpe in December 1998 but was eventually sussed out by Lawrie Sanchez and off-loaded to Stoke on a free in March 1999. His last performance for Wycombe was the infamous Bournemouth away game in February 1999 where, along with fellow cast-offs Mark Stallard and Jason Kavanagh, he bowed out with a totally gutless display. His move to Stoke has perked up his career again but his disciplinary problems, like at Wycombe, will always cause him suspensions throughout the season.
