What we think:. 'Oh-aah Kavanagh' has the honour of being John Gregory's first signing while at Wycombe. A former trainee at Derby who has also represented England at Youth and Schoolboy level. Made over 100 First Team appearances for County but lost out on First Team action following Derby's rise to the Premier League. Originally on loan from Derby County, he signed permanently for Wycombe in December 1996 and quickly established himself in the Wycombe team. The departure of Gregory coupled with injury in early 1998/99 saw a rapid decline in his performances. By the time Lawrie Sanchez had replaced Neil Smillie, Kavanagh may have been fit to play but his heart was never in it and was promptly shown the door by the new manager in March 1999 - Stoke City doing the honours. Has since played for Cambridge United but retired from the full-time game at the end of the 1999/2000 season to become a financial advisor. Ironically his last game for Cambridge was against Wycombe in May 2000. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
