RUGBY LATEST
(Thursday 14th March 2002)
Wanderers' new Chief Executive Simon Monkman has briefly touched on the Wasps subject via the Club's Official Match programme. His article said "Everyone is talking about the Wasps groundshare and there still seems to be concern over, amongst other things, Wycombe Wanderers losing its identity. Let me assure you, as a former brand manager, that I won't allow brand to be diminished or diluted."

Meanwhile, Despite the deal not being officially complete, England International and Wasps star Lawrence Dallaglio told a national newspaper this week that he was excited about moving grounds to Wycombe. The 29 year old said "The area has a sizeable rugby following and the ground is superb with a 10,000 capacity. Even with good gates at Loftus Road you feel you are playing in a half-empty ground"
Wycombe District Council are set to give the green light to the request for Wasps Rugby Club to play at Adams Park according to sources close to the situation. An official announcement was expected in the first week of March that would see Wasps play at Adams Park for two years with an option for a third. It was later revealed that the Council decision has been delayed until the last week in March after The Wanderers missed the planning committee deadline.
That deadline could be a problem for Wasps as they must have a decision by the 31st March to fall into line with updated regulations of The Board of England Rugby Ltd. Those regulations state that after this date, existing and newly promoted clubs "have to be owners or principal tenants of their ground". It's a timescale that has left both parties sweating it out over the Council's decision. However, insiders suggest that agreement is a mere formality.
