(Wednesday 4th April 2001) ![]() Commenting in the May 2001 issue of FourFourTwo magazine the Wycombe gaffer said "That was unique time, unique club, a unique group of players but it's a long time ago now" But Sanchez realises that the comparisons are inevitable. Speaking on Sky's Last Word programme before the match with Leicester he said "If you come out of the Wimbledon school, they all want to say Crazy Gang Mark II" Sanchez says he striving to combine all the elements that his career at Wimbledon taught him and cited former Dons boss Dave Bassett as a major influence. After spending seven years as a player at Reading, one of the first things Bassett told Sanchez on his arrival at Plough Lane was that he had 'low horizons'. "That's is one thing that I've carried to my team. I say to them don't limit your horizons" said Sanchez "The group of players myself and Terry Gibson took over were second bottom of the division and heading into the Third Division, weren't motivated and were thinking that's the best they can do" In the Dressing Room before the Quarter-Final tie at Filbert Street, Sanchez told his players that they wouldn't lose. That belief was carried through into a performance that left many Wycombe followers lost for words after seeing the Premiership side dumped out of the competition by The Chairboys. At Villa Park Sanchez will be calling on his motivational techniques yet again as he plots what would be the biggest upset in the history of the game. Back to Semi-Final special >>> |
