IT'S A GAME FOR HEROES
(Friday 9th March 2001)

Lawrie Sanchez is confident that his team can put in another good cup performance against Leicester. Speaking on 1170am's Blues News on Thursday he said "If we can perform like we can do and Leicester have perhaps not quite one of their best days, anything is possible in football, especially cup football."

He's seen his team come through eight games to earn the chance in the Quarter-Finals and he knows they can raise their game against higher League opposition. "The players are really up for it and the confidence is oozing through. I just want our lads to give a good performance and not to be overcome by the big occasion and to show what they can do. We can perhaps get something from this game"

Having beaten three Division One clubs on route to Filbert St, this will be the first time his patched up side will have faced Premiership opposition. More than 3,000 Wycombe fans are making the journey to Filbert Street hoping for a big upset "We'll have big support there. I'm sure they will be noisy, there's going to be good support back at Adams Park for the beam-back and hopefully everybody will have a good day"

Sanchez confirmed that recent injury victims Dave Carroll and Andy Rammell would not be risked for the game at Filbert Street. "We can't afford for them to break down again with the season nearing it's conclusion. They won't play again until they are 100% fit"

The Wycombe gaffer is now resting his striking hopes on crack centre-forward Keith Ryan, Manchester United loanee George Clegg and triallist Roy Essandoh. 'Rhino' had his testimonial against The Foxes earlier in the season but could only play for 15 minutes due to injury. Now a Wycombe player is set up for their 15 minutes of fame "It's a game for heroes and being in the right place at the right time made my name to a certain extent as a player and it's there for other people on Saturday"
