Gary Goodchild - pic Paul Dennis Wycombe's youth manager, Gary Goodchild`s, was satisfied after the win.

"Yes, we could have played better, but the most important is that we won the difficult first match. We got a positive start on the tournament and my players will become more comfortable" he said.

His smile got bigger when I told him that the Wycombe Wanderers fans all over will be kept informed about their performances in this JET 2000-tournament
"Oh really? Perfect, because we owe the Supporters Club a big thanks. They are eager to help the youth football-department in the club, and I know they have collected money for us. Thank you, guys!"

Wycombe youth team started their pre season just ten days ago. After six weeks without football, he knows the players will be a bit rusty, lacking match fitness and stamina.

"I`m not worried. I speak for all the lads when I say it`s good to be back in the game. They worked hard in front of the tournament, the team-spirit is great. It`s good to be back in Hamar, Norway!.".

Mr. Goodchild told me about his team`s success last season: Winning the league and reaching the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup!

"We miss five of our best players due to their involvement in the first team`s preseason. They would definitely have strengthened our team, but now other squad-members have the chance to make an impression" added Goodchild.

Without doubt, Goodchild is a great asset for Wycombe Wanderers. He`s beginning his third year as the youth manager, and he`s very optimistic about the club`s future.

"I see a bright future! We`re a club without big money, but around two-three years the club spent around £ 400,000 on youth development. Already now we see the first signs that this has been a successful decision" he said and looked forward to the next match against Brann later on Wednesday. The opponents are among the hot favourites to win this tournament...
