Background: Signed on a season long deal by Tony Adams for the 2004/5 season. A 6'3" central defender who was signed by Southampton for £100,000 after being spotted playing for Torquay United. Joined The Gulls aged just 11 and went on to make his First Team debut with aged 17. However, he failed to break into the Southampton First Team and was loaned back to Torquay for a couple of months during the 2003/4 season. On joining Wycombe on loan he told the Bucks Free Press "I want to play first team football. I've played in the reserves every week and it's a bit false. You don't play with the same 11 every week and you can end up playing too much reserve team football."
After joining Wycombe on a permanent deal under Manager John Gorman in the summer of 2005, he went on to establish himself as a regular in the centre of defence. His contract was extended for a further two years (until June 2009) by new Wycombe boss Paul Lambert during the 2006/7 season but after stalling on signing another extended contract under Peter Taylor, he was first subject to two £100,000 offers from Colchester United (now managed by Paul Lambert) and then after these were rejected, an improved offer from 'Championship' side Watford in January 2009. This latter deal was accepted and Williamson, then 25 years old, joined The Hornets for a fee believed to be in the region of £150,000 on a deal running until June 2012. It was also later revealed that Wanderers secured a sell-on clause of 25% of any profit Watford make from his subsequent sale.
