CITY COMPLETE PRE-SEASON
(Tuesday 7th August 2001)
Cardiff City First day opponents Cardiff City completed their pre-season build-up with a 2-0 victory at Bath City on Monday evening. Geordie striker Paul Brayson struck twice against The Dr Martens side for a mainly reserve based Cardiff line-up

One of City's star in their pre-season friendlies has been goalkeeper Lee Kendall. The Welsh Under 21 has conceeded just one goal in five friendly appearances and could figure against against Wycombe as Cardiff's previous first choice 'keeper Mark Walton is still recovering from a knee op. However, City's summer signing of Neil Alexander from Livingstone has also been outstanding in pre-season and the 23 year old Scot is likely to get the nod on the opening day.

After the game City's assistant manager Ian Butterworth said "It was a good workout and a competitive 90 minutes" However, like Wycombe's game at Aldershot on Saturday there were a few flare-ups on the pitch "It was a little niggly at times, but that's all part of the preparation. We want to see how players cope in difficult situations and for the most part they stayed out of trouble." added Butterworth.

City lined up as follow: L Kendall, K Evans, A Jordan (sub 87 K Huggins), D Hughes, G Jones, W Boland, L Maxwell, J Bowen (sub 87 K Nugent), L Fortune-West, P Brayson, L Jeanne.

The highlights of City's pre-season programme have been victories over Crystal Palace (4-0) and Coventry City (1-0), both at Ninian Park. The latter was watched by a crowd of just over 9,000 and they have already sold over 10,000 tickets for Saturday's clash with Wycombe. The game will also be used for the launch of ITV Digital's Second Division round up programme starting on Sunday at 10.30am. They will show extended coverage of the game and a number of interviews with both players and management. The channel is available to subscribers only.
