WYCOMBE GO FOR FORRESTER (Friday 13th July 2001) ![]() The revelation that Wycombe were interested in the 5' 7" striker came on the same day that Cobblers boss Kevin Wilson declared that there will be no more new faces at Sixfields before the start of the season, unless somebody goes out in the other direction. Wilson told the Northampton Chroncile and Echo "If anybody comes in then somebody will have to go out, that is the reality at this football club. We aren’t a Wigan or a Millwall with money to splash around, but we have to go at it from the point of view of looking at what Rotherham achieved last season." Wilson confirmed the interest from Wycombe on the Official Northampton Town website "A bid was put on the table for Jamie Forrester recently but nothing more has happened since then. I don’t want Jamie to go but I understand the situation at this football club. It’s not a case of holding out for a higher bid. I don’t want Jamie to go, but I understand the position here." Like Wycombe, The Cobblers were also interested in bringing in Port Vale veteran striker Tony Naylor but both clubs appear to have lost interest. Any movement on the Forrester deal is unlikely to make progress until The Cobblers return from a pre-season visit to Ireland. In another ironic twist, former Wycombe striker Keith Scott played and scored for Northampton in a pre-season friendly against Milton Keynes City only to be replaced by Forrester at half-time. ![]() Both parties are said to be thinking over the options but the deal looks unlikley to go ahead due to the wage and contract demands of the ex-Palace player. Wycombe want him on a one year contract while Ruddock wants the security of a two year deal. Ruddock has yet to comment on the offer. Other player news saw Steve Jones return to train with Bristol City. Jones spent the first few days of pre-season training with Wycombe but was recalled by City boss Danny Wilson. The Essex based striker has stated his desire to move closer to home and said he may also consider a drop down to non-League level. However, since then Wilson has given the go ahead for Jones to return to Wycombe for training. He told the Official City website "Steve has looked lean and sharp from the moment he came back and if he trains as well with Wycombe I would think they will try to keep him. The lad wants to be playing again, but feels it will be very hard for him to regain the faith of City fans after the start he had with the club. It may be better for all concerned if he makes a fresh start elsewhere." As usual we'll keep you posted of any developments.
