RAZOR AND GUPPS TARGETED (Wednesday 11th July 2001) With the signing of Darren Currie finally completed, the rumour mill is back in full swing on who's going to be the next player to move to Adams Park. Internet talk has centered around former Spurs, Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton defender Neil Ruddock. Chairboys on the Net understands that the Club have indeed been involved in discussions with the the 33 year old central defender who made 25 appearances for Crystal Palace last season under ex-Wycombe boss Alan Smith. Ruddock had been lined-up for a move to Oxford United but The U's have since signed John Dreyer. This has left the way open for Lawrie Sanchez to bring hardman Ruddock to Adams Park as a replacement for the retired Jamie Bates. Sanchez tried to lure Bates out of retirement during the summer but the ex-Brentford man remained unswayed. Chairboys on the Net can also reveal that former Wanderers favourite Steve Guppy is being cited for a move from Premiership Leicester City back to Adams Park. The wing-back is out of favour with his current boss Peter Taylor and is looking for another club. However, dropping down two divisions could be a bitter pill to swallow for the 32 year old and both parties would have to come to a compromise over wage demands. Guppy left Wycombe seven years ago to join Newcastle United and ended up at Filbert Street via a spell with Port Vale. These latest rumours come after Sanchez ruled out attempts to bring in Readings's 29 year old striker Jimmy McIntyre and Port Vale's veteran goal machine Tony Naylor. Both players were non-starters after they priced themselves out of a move to Adams Park. It's for this reason that the talk of bringing in Ruddock or Guppy are being taken with a pinch of salt by most Wycombe fans, although the arrival of 'Razor' seems the most likely of the two.
