Reading Girls v Wycombe Wanderers Sunday 15th February 2004 The Reserves' 5-0 away defeat by league leaders Reading Girls was, in fact, not a bad performance; the score might have been a goal or two closer, but the result was probably fair. A positive start by Wycombe kept the game goalless for 20 minutes, so it was a shame when the first goal seemed to have been scored from an offside position. The second was a good goal we couldn't really have any complaints about. Excellent work by the back four, under the leadership of 'Freddie' and a good diving save from 'Buttons', in goal for her first league start for a while, kept the visitors in the game until just before half time. A long corner dropped comfortably at the far post for an unmarked player to place her shot. A few changes in the second half improved the Blues' shape but even half chances were hard to come by against a team that has dominated the league this year. Karen Slater came on to try and match the pace of their left wing and Laura Coull and Becca Hilton worked hard to try to make the best of what they got in the centre, but most of the game was played in the Reading half. It was the turn of left back Roisin Nellis to be awarded the Player of the Match for her sterling performance alongside Tracey Jani. The home team put away another 2 goals in the second half, but although some players were disappointed with their performance coach Tracy Sturges felt that everyone had given all they could give against a better side.
