Wycombe v Oxfam Sunday 25th January 2004 Blues made a promising start with shots from Laura McLean, Becca Hilton and Laura Coull, who played her best game of the season so far, creating chances for others, as well as herself. At the other end Oxfam got behind Wycombe's defence a couple of times, but neither team could take advantage. Captain Amy Watters did well to hold up the ball keeping play in the Oxfam half, while Tahli Jenkinson had a good game on the right wing. The second half started well, but again Blues pressure couldn't be converted into goals. Karren Slattery came on for the injured Hilton and Titch replaced Stephanie Dean. A misplaced back-pass gave Oxfam a goal scoring opportunity but Tracy Sturges made a good save. However, she had little to do through most of the game due to good work by the back four. The visitors grew in confidence as the game went on and the scores remained level, making a tense last few minutes. Amy Watters headed McLean's corner wide and was denied a goal in the dying moments, while the defence prevented Oxfam grabbing a winner at the other end. Overall, another disappointing draw against a side we should have beaten easily, having had most of the possession throughout the game and so many shots that just didn't quite make it. Loretta Semmons-Doel, AKA 'Freddie', was awarded MOTM for her 100% effort, excellent clearances, sliding tackles and attacking play. A good way to top off her birthday weekend.
