Wycombe Wanderers Ladies Football Team 2003-2004 Match report Wycombe v Burghfield Sunday 30th November 2003 Click here for Picture Gallery for this game Wycombe Wanderers Ladies claimed a welcome three points with a 6-1 victory over injury hit Burghfield in a game played on The Rye. The visitors were only able to bring 10 players with them, but they sat firmly behind the ball and invited us to play. It was a challenge that we found difficult to meet, shooting when we should have crossed, trying to play when we should have shot and then finding a real star of a goalkeeper who makes a couple of great saves in the first half. Su Oakley and Sophy Bowden went close before Player of the Match, Raff Valentino caught the ball sweetly 25 yards out and drove it into the top corner. Oakley doubled the lead before Marion Lyon’s mistake in the middle gave the visitors the ball, which they laid behind our back four to set up a well-taken goal. Coach Graham Malcolm changed things round. Jodie Taylor came on for the injured Caz Yandell; Claire Wakefield came on at left back, Leah Asante at left midfield and Valentino moved into the middle. The pace of the game picked up, Asante and Jane Graddon on the right, laid balls back to the full backs Wakefield and Nic Thorne who were able to throw them into the danger area. Thorne came in quickly to knick a lose ball, drove into the box and scored to make it 3-1. Valentino and Oakley combined well for Oakleys’s second, she then claimed a hat-trick with a headed goal from a corner and Graddon made it six right at the end picking up Oakley’s cross.
