NATIONWIDE Division Two Luton Town v WYCOMBE
Tuesday 19th October
Division Two
Jason Cousins - goal at LutonWycombe had to settle for a point at Kenilworth Road after taking a first half lead through Jason Cousins. Wycombe were the superior side in the first half but a second-half revival by the home side saw The Hatters retain their unbeaten home record with a 55th minute equaliser through Stuart Douglas.
Fielding an unchanged side from the one that lost 2-1 at Notts County on Saturday, Wycombe almost went ahead within the first minute when Jermaine McSporran broke in from the right side but Nathan Abbey was alert in the Luton goal to block with his feet. Wycombe continued to cause a problems for a shakey looking Luton defence. On 10 minutes a quick throw on the right saw Matt Lawrence's flick cleared off the line and from the clearance Michael Simpson's first time effort was tipped over with style by Abbey. Wycombe took the lead in the 24th minute after McSporran has been fouled on the right wing. Steve Brown sent in the free-kick and Jason Cousins headed in at the far post to score a rare set-piece goal for Wycombe. Four minutes later Cousins was in action at the other when he blocked one of few accurate shots from the home side. Paul Emblen saw a low shot skid past the left hand post five minutes before the break while the home side had appeals for handball turned down in first-half stoppage time.
Half-time Luton 0 Wycombe 1
Luton forced their equaliser four minutes into the second-half in an effort similar to Wycombe's goal. Stuart Fraser sent over a cross from the right and Douglas's looping header beat Taylor at the far post. From then on it was anyone's game. On 55 minutes Wycombe had the ball in the back of the net when Sean Devine tucked in a Simpson free-kick from the left but the flag was raised for offside. Indeed Wycombe were caught out too often by the Luton offside trap and on the rare occasion it was broken, Abbey was out quick to block. At the other end Luton looked dangerous on the break but Taylor was rarely troubled by the final shot.
