Wanderers will be slightly the happier side after ending a run a three consecutive defeats with a gritty performance at Loftus Road. Frank Talia was by far the busier of the two keeper's but Wycombe could have snatched it at the death when substitute Gavin Holligan was presented with the ball at his feet around six yards from goal following a Darren Currie lay-off but he ended up skewing the ball wide to the relief of the Rangers fans.
As expected there were no changes to Wycombe line-up that had lost 2-0 at Rushden the previous week. On the bench, however, Steve Williams was included as a substitute 'keeper after Frank Talia's sending-off at Nene Park. Keith Ryan was also name as a substitute and later came on the make his first appearance of the season.
Wanderers started the game well with Currie, Rogers and Onuora all seeing sight of goal. The home side then saw Talia deny Kevin Gallen on 25 minutes and Marcus Bean five minutes before the break. Former Wanderers' Youth Teamer Martin Rowlands curled a 20 yard free-kick against Talia's right hand post three minutes into the second-half as Rangers looked the side most likely to break the deadlock. Wanderers changed things after the hour mark with the introduction of Holligan for Iffy Onuora and Ryan for Jermaine McSporran but it was the home side who continued to threaten.
However, urged on again in the closing stages by a noisey travelling support, Wanderers saw Holligan shoot weakly at Chris Day on 74 minutes after a weighted pass by Currie before the same player saw another gilt edged chance vanish during the five minutes of stoppage time. Even after that Talia had to make another brilliant save when he blocked Gareth Ainsworth's shot from the right edge of the box.
