After the previous Saturday's 3-3 draw with Chesterfield Lawrie Sanchez made three changes to the starting line-up. Frank Talia returned in goal for the first time this season in favour of Steve Williams. Dannie Bulman got the nod ahead of Charlie Mapes in midfield while Simon Patterson replaced Jonny Dixon and partnered fellow loanee Iffy Onuora up front. There were changes on the bench too with Andy Thomson and Steve Brown preferred to Stuart Roberts and Lewis Cook. Grimsby had the best chance during the opening exchanges when a cross found dangerman Marcel Cas who shot wide of Talia's goal. The opening goal came after Michael Simpson conceded a free-kick for a foul on Cas around 20 yards from goal. Darren Barnard stepped up to curl the ball over the wall and past Talia into the right corner of the Wycombe net. Wanderers responded briefly when a Mark Rogers shot on 20 minutes forced Aidan Davison in the Grimsby goal into a good save but it was home side who enjoyed more of the possession. Only a well timed tackle by Roger Johnson in the moments before the break prevented a further clear cut goal scoring chance for the home side but then in first half stoppage time a Darren Currie cross was met by the head of Onuora but Tony Crane managed to clear the ball off the line as Wycombe trailed at the interval. Half-time Grimsby 1 Wycombe 0 Grimsby doubled their lead seven minutes after the restart when Wanderers lost possession and allowed the home side to break down the left wing. Jonathan Rowan looked to have been fouled for a penalty but the referee played the advantage and Stuart Campbell crossed for Michael Boulding to steer the ball past Talia. Jermaine McSporran almost scored seconds after the restart but his effort was scrambled away by the Grimsby defence and with the score still at 2-0 it left Wanderers with a mountain climb although Sanchez made changes shortly afterwards, bringing on Danny Senda to replace Patterson, with McSporran moved into a more attacking role. 'Jocky' was later replaced by Jonny Dixon but with Wycombe attempting to create chances it left more gaps at the back. Grimsby went on to exploit those gaps and only a great save by Talia on 75 minutes prevented Cas from adding a third. However, four minutes later the former Notts County player did get the better of Talia when he struck home from the edge of the penalty area to make it 3-0 after the Wanderers defence lost out again down the Grimsby right. Wycombe went close to pulling a goal back when Dixon hit the post with a cracking shot on 81 minutes and Currie shot the rebound wide. Then in stoppage time Dixon won the ball and passed to Onuora who fed through to Mapes who beat his man before firing past Davison to keep up Wycombe's record of scoring in every game so far this season. Final Score - Grimsby Town 3 Wycombe 1
