Before the game there was a further shock for Wanderers fans when it was announced that Craig Faulconbridge was missing due to a mystery groin strain. His absence meant a start for Stuart Roberts as Lawrie Sanchez opted to play Sean Devine up front in a 4-3-2-1 formation. Wanderers made a shaky start to the game although Martin Taylor was never tested. Wycombe's first real chance came on 14 minutes when Roberts took the ball wide wide right before delivering a cross that Bulman was unable to get hold of from a central position. The visitors responded on 22 minutes when Paul Harsley produced some neat footwork before he struck a low ball just wide of Taylor's right hand post. Chris Vinnicombe's cross from the left on 32 minutes and Devine's flick header that went high of the cross bar proved to be the last serious action before it was lights out again It was a full thirty minutes before play was resumed and during the remaining seven minutes of the half it was Wycombe who came closest when Roberts' low shot was grabbed at the 2nd attempt by Lee Harper in The Cobblers goal. Half-time 0-0 Wanderers took the lead two minutes into the second-half when Currie's free-kick from the right wing crept all the way into the goal as Harper was pressured by Mark Rogers. However, Wycombe failed to build on the goal and the visitors levelled on 69 minutes. It was a scrappy goal with Mark Rogers messy back header eluding Paul McCarthy and letting in Jamie Forrester to score from around six yards. Wycombe could have regained the lead on 71 minutes when Harper tipped away Steve Brown's effort from Currie's cross as Wycombe produced a rare spell of pressure. However, another goal didn't look like coming despite the use of substitutes Roger Johnson, Andy Thomson and a Football League debut for Youth Teamer Jonny Dixon. Final Score Wycombe 1 Northampton 1
