Leeyon Phelan - picture Paul Lewis The Wanderers Reserves opened their 2001/2002 programme with a very satisfying 3-1 victory at The County Ground over Swindon Town. It was Reserves new boss Michael Forsyth's first game in charge of the 2ndXI and he saw his side come back from an early goal to run out comfortable winners.
Wycombe included traillist Lee Canoville in the centre of defence. The 20 year old was released by Arsenal at the end of last season and performed well enough to earn another look by Wycombe. Meanwhile the home side included new signings Paul Edwards and Bertie Brayley in their squad with new Manager Roy Evans watching and Assisant Neil Ruddock playing.
Swindon opened the scoring on six minutes when Mark Robinson slotted home from a cross but Wycombe were level three minutes later when Keith Ryan scored a screamer from 30 yards. A foul by Ruddock on Emblen led to Wycombe's second goal on 37 minutes. Both players ended up with yellow cards but from the resulting free-kick Ruddock fouled again, this time in the area and Emblen slotted away the penalty.
Brucies boys sealed their victory in the 57th minute when Carroll's throw from the left found Emblen who set up Leeyon Phelan and the Third Year Scholar found the target through a group of players. Wycombe could have added more with Phelan, Emblen and Ian Simpemba all going close.

The game with Swindon marked the start of a season where all disciplinary points incurred by players within the Avon Insurance Combination will be 'ring-fenced' within the competition. This will mean that players will no longer miss vital First Team matches in the Nationwide League through offences committed in Reserve Team Leagues. The only exceptions to this will be for players guilty of violent conduct, serious foul play or spitting at an opponent, who will still be banned from matches in all competitions. The decision which has delighted officials connected with the Avon Insurance Combination has largely come about as a result of the intensive lobbying by members of the Management Boards of both the Avon Insurance Combination and Avon Insurance League. The decision couldn't have come sooner for Wycombe, with Paul Emblen, Ian Simpemba and Roger Johnson all seeing yellow.

Wycombe continue their Reserve programme on Tuesday 4th September when Oxford United are the visitors to Adams Park (kick-off 2pm).
