FA CUP THIRD ROUND DRAW
Wycombe will play Fulham at home in the Third Round of the 2001/2 FA Cup on Saturday 5th January and the winners will pick up £50,000 from the increased sponsorship deal this season. This will be the first time the two clubs have met in the FA Cup although they have met in the Football League on four occasions in the late 1990's. The last meeting was a 1-1 draw at Adams Park in February 1999 which was Lawrie Sanchez's first game in charge for Wycombe. Speaking before the draw was made, Lawrie Sanchez said "I don’t think a big cup run this season would hurt our promotion chances because I believe we have a better squad this year than last. No matter what type of cup run we have obviously I want to do well in the cup we were semi-finalists last year it’ll be nice if we can get back there this year." Following the draw Sanchez added he was looking forward to the game and is keen to take advantage of the tie being at Adams Park. "We’re at home, we’ve got a good home record to protect and it will be a good test for us.". Wycombe will claim £50,000 in sponsorship money if they can get by their Premiership opponents and Sanchez sees the lure of a live TV game incentive enough to progress. "It is there for us to get through to the Fourth Round and draw a TV game. We’ll give them a good game, but it will be very, very tough." The Cottagers have one of the best defensive records in the Premiership, conceeding just 20 goals in their first 19 games and Sanchez is an admirer of their style of football. "Fulham are probably the purest football side in the Premiership. They like to pass the ball and they pass it very, very well."
