CURRIE JOINS WYCOMBE FOR
£200K (Thursday 28th June 2001) ![]() Wycombe have broken out of their close season coma to set up the signing of Barnet midfielder Darren Currie for a £200,000 fee. The 26 year old, who scored ten times during the 2000/2001 season, will finalise personal terms with Wycombe over the next few days and should join his new team mates when training resumes on Thursday 5th July. Wycombe have beaten off bids from other clubs that have included Leyton Orient and Southend United to capture the talented midfielder. Currie has been in the PFA Division Three Team of the Season for the past two seasons since moving to Underhill in the summer of 1998. His complete record at Barnet reads 21 goals from 141 appearances. Currie began his professional career as a trainee with West Ham but was loaned out to Shrewsbury and Leyton Orient before a permanent move to Gay Meadow in February 1996. Rumours surrounding the signing of Currie have been circulating since the end of the season and at the end of May he told the Bucks Free Press "I want to leave Barnet because I believe I am better than the Conference and better than Division Three." Currie added "I know a lot about Wycombe because Sean (Devine) keeps me in touch and they would be the pick of the teams that I've heard about" The £200,000 fee, which will be paid in installments, is the biggest fee Wycombe have splashed out since Sean Devine joined Wycombe from Barnet in March 1999 for a similar figure. Currie agrees terms with Wycombe (3rd July) More transfer gossip and news on Wycombe Read all the latest Wycombe news |
