O'NEILL - TEN YEARS OF GLORY
(26th May 2001) ![]() According to some media reports O'Neill's success at Celtic has thrown him into the running for the Manager's job at Manchester United but Celtic chairman Brian Quinn has insisted that Martin O'Neill will remain manager of the Glasgow club for two more years at least. Quinn told BBC Scotland: "He will be at Celtic until the end of his contract at least. There has been no contact with Manchester United as far as I am aware. Martin is quite angry about the speculation. He is going nowhere." O'Neill is also said to be considering taking legal action against newspaper claims connecting to the job at Old Trafford. O'Neill, who has studied law, added "I'm perfectly happy at this football club and there is an awful lot to look forward to. No-one from Manchester United has ever made any sort of contact - official or unofficial - with me about the manager's job nor have they contacted the board about my position." The next target for O'Neill will be an assault on the Champions League but he's still realistic about the situation. "A lot can happen in a year and I'm not so arrogant as to think that I'll even be safe here if I don't win the right amount of matches." He added "The Champions League is where you want to be. The more often you play in it, the more you get used to it and the more confident you become. Manchester United took a few attempts before they succeeded. Lots of teams have had plenty of attempts and not done it at all. The more times you are in the competition, the better it is for you." The Rise of O'Neill - Ten years of glory - >>> |
