GREGORY OFF TO VILLA

On Wednesday 25th February 1998 John Gregory walked out on his post as Wycombe Manager to fill the vacant spot at Premiership Aston Villa. The hot seat at Villa Park was left open when Brian Little resigned on the Monday previous and Villa Chairman Doug Ellis was quick to pounce for Gregory - a former coach and player for Villa.
Gregory left Wycombe after just 16 months in charge and was contracted until the end of the 1997/98 season. Wycombe are expected to claim a compensation fee of just over £100,000 and Villa have agreed to a pre-season friendly with Wycombe next season.
