Background:
On the evening of Tuesday 11th July 2023, the Club announced their second signing of the day with the news that defender / midfielder Luke Leahy had joined Wycombe Wanderers on a three-year deal from fellow League One side Shrewsbury Town. The 30-year-old was reported to have turned down an improved offer to stay with The Shrews in favour of a chance to join Wycombe. Some press reports indicated there an undisclosed fee [believed to be in the region of £100,000). However, he was also reported to be out of contract, which would suggest that any fee would have been a direct signing on fee via the player's agent.

Leahy (pronounced Lee-Hee) had finished the 2022/23 campaign as top scorer for The Shrews, with 12 goals in all competitions. This followed previous spells at Walsall and Bristol Rovers and prior to that a five year stint with Falkirk in the second-tier of Scottish football. Wycombe boss Matt Bloomfield, commenthing on the deal, said: "He’s got a fantastic left foot, he can play in midfield or anywhere down the left, and he’s got a really impressive goal return over the years." Meanwhile, in a local press interview, Leahy added: "When I’ve played against Wycombe, I’ve always seen the camaraderie between the players and they’ve been up there for the past few seasons. That played a big part and after speaking to the gaffer and Scott Mitchell, I felt like this was the right fit for me at this stage of my career. It was a decision that I thought about thoroughly and had to go over all the pros and cons with my wife but I’m here now and I’m loving it.".

He was allocated No.10 in the Wycombe squad for the 2023/24 season and made his competitive debut on the opening day of the campaign.
