Matty Warner and James Rogers defend a West Brom free-kick The Wanderers' Under 19's went down to their second successive 2-1 defeat in the "Merit Division" of the Football League Youth Alliance, this time losing to West Bromwich Albion. The Premiership scholars made the most of a couple relapses in the Wanderers defence to take the points on a sunny morning at Molins Sports Ground.
After a solid start for Wycombe where Billy Harding looking lively up front and Jack Smillie produced some good runs from deep it was the visitors who took the lead on 21 minutes when Ezekiel Tomlinson nipped in down the right channel before shooting past Tom Gott from 8 yards.
Stuart Hole went close for Wycombe at the other end but as Wanderers pushed for an equaliser in the second-half it was The Baggies who broke down the left wing on 73 minutes where the resulting cross looped up off the Wycombe defence and set up Daniel Carey-Bertram with a simple header to convert at the far post.
Wanderers did pull one back two minutes later when Jamie McClurg's shot from the edge of the penalty took a wicked deflection and beat Daniel Crane in the West Brom goal. Wycombe pushed again for a leveller but understandably left gaps at the back and only an excellent one handed save by Gott on 81 minutes prevented another West Brom goal.
