Wanderers Youth Team just failed to avoid picking up the 'wooden spoon' in their merit league of the Football League Youth Alliance, after drawing 1-1 with Portsmouth at Molins Sports Grounds. In a scrappy first half it was the visitors who took the lead on 25 minutes when Liam Horsted slipped the ball past Tom Gott from the left side of the penalty area after a through ball had split the Wanderers defence. However, Wanderers made a couple of changes shorlty before the break including the introduction of prolific scorer Lee Parrack. The all out attacking policy paid off in the 62nd minute when Parrack was pulled back on the edge of the box and Youth Team Player of the Season Stuart Hole fired home the resulting free-kick though the five man Pompey wall. Hole had gone close to equalising earlier in the half and despite further Wycombe pressure they were unable to find the winner. Wycombe may have finished bottom of their merit division but this has been the first time they have qualified for the top division which this season looks likely to be won by a relativelly more experienced Brentford side.
Final Score Wycombe 1 Portsmouth 1
