Youth boss Ian Culverhouse made three changes to the side that had beaten Gravesend & Northfleet in the previous round. In goal schoolboy Alex McCarthy was favoured ahead of second year Dean Thornton, while Scott Shulton replaced Stuart Cattell at the back and Lloyd Boateng was added to the forward line, with Douglas Wesley missing through injury. Pitman proved to be the dangerman to Wycombe from the off. He angled a shot just wide of the post in the 10th minute but Wycombe created chances of their own before his first half brace. In the 26th minute visiting 'keeper James Rae dropped a free-kick from the right channel and Boateng struck the loose ball against the post before it appeared to hit the arm of a defender. The loud appeals for penalty from Wycombe were ignored by the officials. Ten minutes before the break Giambrone saw an effort from 12 yards tipped wide by Rae but from the next Bournemouth attack the visitors were ahead. Pitman got past Tom Cadmore on the edge of the Wycombe box before turning to shoot past McCarthy. It was then 2-0 on the stroke of half-time when Pitman slotted home from the left of the penalty area after being given too much space again by the Wycombe defence. James Faulkner was introduced at the start of the second-half as Wycombe went all out to salvage the tie with a three up front formation. And it was Faulkner who had a great chance to reduce the deficit on 56 minutes when left with only Rae to beat from the left channel but the Cherries 'keeper blocked with his legs. When Pitman converted his penalty on the hour mark it looked curtains for Wycombe. Even the push on Faulkner in the 70th minute that gave Wycombe a penalty of their own that Andy Savage converted, looked at the time to be merely a consolation. However, with eight minutes of normal time remaining Giambrone popped up with a close range header to make the score 3-2 and three minutes later Ikechi Anya sprinted in from the left channel following a long punt by Gary Bunting and knocked the ball into the net as the Cherries 'keeper slipped. Wanderers were now the dominant side and grabbed their remarkable winner when Giambrone got his second of the night. The visitors pushed for an equaliser in the dyeing moments and had the ball in the net with a couple of minutes remaining only for it to be ruled out for a push on Wanderers' 'keeper Alex McCarthy. The final whistle was greeted by scenes of celebration from the Wycombe bench while the Cherries players sunk to their knees wondering how they had thrown the tie away. The reward for the Wanderers is a home Third Round match against Blackpool or Tranmere Rovers in a tie to be played before Saturday 17th December. Final Score Wycombe 4 Bournemouth 3 (after extra-time)
