The
Wanderers Reserves suffered a 2-1 reverse on a dreadful surface at the Crystal
Palace National Sports Arena. The Eagles won the game with two goals within 18
second-half minutes, while The Wanderer pulled a late goal back through Stewart
Castledine.
Despite the defeat it was another reasonable display from The Chairboys, with Mo
Harkin managing to shine even though the pitch resembled a ploughed field with a
mixture of sand for good measure.
Harkin set-up the first chance of the game on nine minutes when he crossed deep
from the right only for Leeyon Phelan's shot to come back off the far post
before being cleared.
The Wanderers hit the woodwork again on 32 minutes when Ian Simpemba's 25 yard
lob hit the top of the Palace crossbar with the 'keeper nowhere.
Palace took the lead five minutes into the second-half when a corner from the
left was bundled home at the far post by Andy Martin with Wycombe making
strong claims for handball.
It was 2-0 on 68 minutes when Palace substitute Steve Hunt played in Steve Cabba
who nipped in to convert from close range.
Wycombe's consolation goal with two minutes remaining when Harkin furrowed
through the middle before playing through to Castledine who got through
the Palace defence before lifting the ball over the advancing 'keeper.
