The only goal of the game came in the 56th minute when Ian Simpemba played through Leeyon Phelan who held off two defenders before firing low past Nathan Abbey in The Hatters goal. There was good news for Simpemba the day before this game when it was announced that he had been called up for the Republic of Ireland Under 17 squad to play two friendly games in France on the 24th and 26th January. After a torrid time in the Avon Insurance Combination last season, this game marked a second successive victory for Terry Gibson's side and they have already accumulated more points than the whole of last season. Bates was partnered in the centre of defence by Alan Beeton, also returning after a spell out through injury. Beeton had a sound game and looked far more comfortable than his recent First Team appearances at left-back. The duo had to contend with a Hatters side that forced ten first-half corners but despite this Mark Westhead had a relatively quiet day in goal. Westhead did well to finger tip around a Stuart Douglas effort in the 27th minute but at the other end Harkin, Simpemba and Holsgrove all went close - the latter effort clipping the top of the cross bar. Stewart Castledine was disappointing again in midfield and was replaced by Jonny Dixon at the break. After the interval Wycombe began to take control and deservedly took the lead through Phelan. There was a scare six minutes before the end when Bates had to head off the line from Rocky Baptiste's shot and in the dying seconds the same player pulled a shot wide after John Nutter had lost possession on the half-way line. Final Score Wycombe 1 Luton Town 0
