Once again they put up an excellent display and were desperately unlucky to go down by two goals to one. The City goal led a charmed life in the first-half with Leeyon Phelan seeing two efforts cleared off the line in quick succession. First Phelan connected with Jonny Dixon's 23rd minute right wing cross only for Ben Cleverley to hook the ball away and then three minutes later it was a Peter Holsgrove cross that ended with Phelan's header being cleared by Danny Coles. City came on strong in the closing stages of the half with Jamie Edwards and Albano Correia both going close before Marvin Brown beat 'keeper Steve Williams to a through ball and then had the simple task of knocking the ball into an empty net. Correia went close again for the visitors shortly after the restart but Wycombe's best spell came around the hour mark culminating in an equaliser on 71 minutes. Before then Dixon's cross from the right had just eluded Holsgrove before Phelan saw his shot shut out and then Holsgrove saw a shot from the left flank slam against the far post before being cleared. The equaliser came after a neat through ball by new Youth Team signing Billy Harding, the 16 year son of former Enfield and Notts County player Paul. Harding's pass put in Phelan who managed to lob the ball over the advancing Anthony Malessa in the City goal. Typically, just as it looked like Wycombe would press on for a winner they were hit with a sucker punch on 75 minutes - a wonder strike from Danny Coles - the City player striking home from a full 35 yards and giving Williams no chance in the Wycombe goal. Wanderers searched for another equaliser but could have conceded more when Lorenco Da Silva saw an effort cleared off the line and in the dying minutes Tom Jordan, son of former City boss Joe, crashed a header against the Wycombe crossbar.
