Football League Two

Wanderers remain in 5th place in League Two following a 0-0 draw with promotion favourites Bury at Adams Park. Both sides have clear cut chances to win the game but a 62nd minute head injury to Steven Craig marred the afternoon, with the Wycombe striker carried off following nine minutes of treatment. It was later revealed that Craig had suffered concussion and had thankfully avoided serious injury.

It came after an end to end game where the visitors had struck the crossbar in the 2nd minute, quickly followed by a breakaway by Wycombe that saw Paris Cowan-Hall shot wide of the left hand upright. The best chance of the first half fell to Peter Murphy who scuffed a shot from around 12 yards, with the goal at his mercy, following a low ball in from the right by Cowan-hall. At the other end, Matt Ingram did well to get down to his right to push away a Danny Mayor effort on 36 minutes.

Stoppage time goal mouth scramble versus Bury
The start of the second-half followed a similar pattern, although the game was understandably quelled by the injury to Craig. However, the pace picked up again with Murphy going close again on 71 minutes with a close range header that was saved at the near post by the quick reactions of Bob Lainton after Sam Wood delivered from the left. Then in the 13 additional minutes played after the regulation 90 - it was Wanderers who went the closest again when a corner swung in from the right by Joe Jacobson saw an almighty scramble with Matt McClure seeing a header strike the crossbar before Murphy's follow up header was flicked onto the crossbar again by Alfie Mawson, with Bury finally scrambling the ball away.

Post match reaction:
Gareth Ainsworth Commenting after the game, Gareth Ainsworth said, "We’ve got to get these points to keep us in League Two again and see where we can get after that. That’s the aim and that will always be the aim because of the scare I had last year. If we keep playing like that, the boys might keep surprising me and we’ll see where we go. In a tough game against probably the league favourites, we edged the chances and were unlucky not to get all three points. I’m disappointed but I also realise where we were last season. I keep harping on about this but we’ve made huge strides for a club that was really in trouble on and off the pitch. It’s small building blocks. We need to build a tower and we are on a few blocks at the moment. The chances created were really good – sticking them in, of course that needs to happen, but it will happen. It’s the creation of the chances I will be looking at, and we created many chances and were unlucky not to score. They are probably favourites for the league, pre the first ball kicked in the league. Them, Shrewsbury and Portsmouth spent the money, David [Flitcroft, Bury manager] is a good manager – he’s managed in the Championship. I consider that a great point for us today. We had the best of the first 30 minutes, they had the last 15 minutes of the first half. The second half started very even Steven to the break when Stevie had his collision and we had that nine minutes. We started the better team and we carried that through to the end of the game. It only looked like one team was going to score today."
