WANDERERS HOME START IN 2004/5
Wanderers will open the 2004/5 Football League season with a home game with Cambridge United on Saturday 7th August. Last season Wycombe broke their nine year Football League opening day hoodoo when they overcame Stockport County in heatwave conditions at Adams Park. It proved to be one of just five home league victories in Wanderers bleakest season since gaining promotion to the Football League in 1993. Ironically, the previous opening day victory had come against Cambridge United at the start of the 1994/95 campaign. Cambridge United - Quick Guide The first away League trip of 2004/5 will see Wanderers visit Chester City on Tuesday 10th August. A one-legged First Round Carling Cup (Football League Cup) tie, the draw for which will take place on Thursday 9th July, is set for the 25th August. Wanderers will not be meeting any opposition new to them in their 2004/5 League programme but will be making their first ever visits to the recently built stadiums at Darlington and Oxford United. However, the meetings with Boston United, Kidderminster Harriers and Yeovil Town will be the first in the Football League. The trip to the Kassam Stadium for the meeting with Oxford United will take place on New Years Day 2005 while the long journey to Darlington to play at the luxurious Reynolds Arena is scheduled for Saturday 30th October. The return to Boston will come on Saturday 16th October, Kidderminster on Saturday 28th August while the trip to the west country to meet up again with Yeovil will have to wait until Saturday 23rd April 2005. A summary of the holiday fixtures has Wanderers at home to Grimsby Town on Monday 30th August, and also home Boxing Day (Sunday 26th December) against Southend United. However, there will be a post Christmas trip to play old Conference rivals Macclesfield Town on Tuesday 28th December. The New Years Day fixture at Oxford is followed by a home game with Cheltenham Town on Monday 3rd January. The remaining holiday fixtures will see a trip to Rochdale on Easter Monday (28th March). The final game of the season is at Bristol Rovers on Saturday 7th May. Full fixture list available from the BBC website here Click here to read all the latest Wycombe news |
