|WANDERERS - PRE-SEASON 2002
Tuesday 30th July 2002 - The Triangle Ground
Henley Town 0 Wycombe Wanderers 1
A young Wanderers side overcame Henley Town by a goal to nil at The Triangle Ground in a testimonial game for Town's long serving player Adam Markwell.
The only goal of the game came on 30 minutes when Ryan Parsons cross from the left edge of the penalty area was eventually scuffed home by Jonny Dixon after mis-kicks from Dixon and Jack Smillie. Dixon also blazed over another effort as Wanderers enjoyed the majority of the play during the opening 45 minutes.
The home side came on stronger in the second-half following a number of substitutions. Paul Kippy came closest to levelling the scores when he drove the ball into the side netting on 56 minutes after Steve Williams was beaten by a low cross from the right.
Jack Smillie had Wycombe's best chance of the second period when he fired over from eight yards following Martyn Lee's corner.
Lawrie Sanchez and son Jack watched the game from the Wycombe bench but it was new Reserve Team boss Peter Cawley who gave the instructions to Wycombe's youngsters. Lewis Cook had another useful game down the left flank and could earn run-outs in the remaining pre-season games against Chelsea (31st July) and Barnet (3rd August).
