YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OFFICER DEPARTS
(Tuesday 10th June 2003)
Adrian Cole The Club have confirmed the departure of Youth Development Officer Adrian Cole after nearly nine years with the Club. The departure has been in the pipeline for a while and is not thought to be connected with the funding problems associated with the Centre of Excellence but comes after a restructure of the Youth set-up at the Club. At present the Club say there are no plans to replace the role even though it could be a requirement of the FA.
Cole was originally invited to the club in August 1994 by Steve Walford, Wanderers Youth Manager at the time. Cole was involved in the setting up of Wanderers first YTS schemes, with the first batch of youngsters including Alan Beeton, Mo Harkin, Aaron Patton and Gary Wraight.
Cole has gone gone on to oversee the development of dozens of youngsters with more then 15 progressing into the First Team including Andy Baird, Danny Senda, Roger Johnson and more recently Lewis Cook and Jonny Dixon.
Wanderers plans to revamp the Youth set-up at the Club have not been widely publicised but it's undertood the intention is to bring through more local youngsters. The first stage of this saw Cole moved away from his more general role controlling the Youth set-up and into overseeing coaching all those players 15 years and younger. Dave Evans, the Club's Community Officer, is understood to be taking over the coaching of the Under 17 team with Michael Forsyth continuing with the Under 19's.
However, any plans to expand the existing set-up could be in jeopardy due to lack of Government funding. The story, first reported nationally in April, means that Wycombe received a £13,800 grant at the end of April instead of their expected £34,500 quarterly total. The Football League have been making representations to the Government in an attempt to claim the promised money which is also made up from contributions from The FA, Premier League, PFA and distributed by Sport England.
