Wycombe could have been 2-0 up inside the opening five minutes. First Martyn Lee struck the crossbar with a free-kick on four minutes and then moment later Posh defender Steven Laurie had to clear his own mis-kick off the line. Wanderers fell behind in the 27th minute following the first of several bizarre decisions by referee Mr Chittenden; Francis Green's strike from 8 yards being allowed to stand despite the player looking suspiciously offside and using his arm to control the ball. Wycombe went further behind in first-half stoppage time when Mark Osborn pushed Helgi Danielsson's away for a corner that Gary MacDonald subsequently headed home. Osborn made another good save from Danielsson six minutes after the re-start but Wycombe nearly got back into the game on 57 minutes following an exchange between Emblen and Jonny Dixon - the latter seeing his shot blocked. Reserve boss Michael Forsyth changed things around just after the hour mark, swopping Emblen and Ian Simpemba for Youth Teamers Pat Lynott and Lewis Cook. Keith Ryan was pushed up front with Stewart Castledine, however, the new formation had little time to settle before Carroll's sending-off. Carroll was first booked for dissent and then moments later tripped Dennis Pearce and was shown his second yellow. The visitors wrapped up matters in the 83rd minute with a fine individual goal by Tom Williams, the Posh left back racing in from the wing before driving in an angled shot past a stunned Osborn. Carroll will not receive a First Team suspension for his marching orders as this only applies to red cards dished out for violent conduct. He will, however, be suspended for the Reserve game scheduled at QPR in early January. That game has been pencilled in as the day when both Andy Baird and Sean Devine will be given a run-out. Before the game with Posh, Michael Forsyth described the progress of the two players as "very good" and added "Although it was a temptation to give them a match today we have decided to wait until QPR on Wedneday 2nd January. At the start of a New year it will be good for them to have the opportunity of a fresh start" Final Score Wycombe 0 Peterborough 3
