With Andy Rammell suspended, Lawrie Sanchez gave a start to Gavin Holligan alongside Richard Walker but there was badluck for Holligan when he was forced to limp off in the 17th minute with a leg injury. Holligan was the only change from the side that had beaten Brentford 5-3 the previous week. Steve Brown returned on the bench following his three match ban and there was also a late change amongst the Wycombe substitutes when Keith Ryan failed a late fitness test and was replaced by Jason Cousins. The visitors went close early on when Ian Richardson latched onto Darren Caskey's free-kick but Wycombe responded with Michael Simpson firing just wide on 4 minutes. A minute later a clever back-heel from Currie let on Danny Senda on the right edge of the box but the shot was saved. Then on 10 minutes Stuart Roberts drove through down the left flank before forcing Steve Mildenhall in the County goal to save. County continued to threaten as they attacked the Valley End goal. Only a last ditch challenge from Danny Senda managed to deflect Danny Allsopp's near post effort on 13 minutes and moments later the meagre County following thought they had scored when Tony Hackworth struck an effort into the side netting. It was four minutes before the break until the next significant piece of action, Darren Currie striking an effort from 25 yards that skidded inches wide of the right-hand upright. Half-time Wycombe 0 Notts County 0 Walker's headed knockdown in the 49th minute saw substitute Paul Emblen fire over at the near post but three minutes later Wycombe took the lead. With Roberts switched to his more natural right wing role, the Welshman cut inside again before whipping in a cross that Bulman stooped to head home amongst a cluster of players. Wycombe doubled their lead on the hour mark when Roberts didn't give up on the chase on a ball down the right wing, crossing at the last possible moment from the bye-line for Walker to smash home at the near post. With the visitors forced to chase the tie, Martin Taylor had to be alert topick out Caskey's effort on 63 minutes and a minute later he made another stunning one-handed save from the same player. Emblen could have made it 3-0 on 70 minutes when he got free on the left but he dragged his effort wide of the far post. A minute later Chris Vinnicombe volleyed over from 20 yards and Emblen went close again as Wycombe dominated. The icing was put on Wycombe's victory with another party piece from Darren Currie, the ex-Barnet man chipping Mildenhall after Walker and Emblen and exchanged just outside the County penalty area. Wycombe could afford to take after the magical duo of Currie and Roberts after that clincher and there was just enough time left for Steve Brown to get stuck in an receive his obligatory recognition from the Woodlands Stand. Final Score Wycombe 3 Notts County 0
