Wycombe wrapped the game up in the 72nd minute with one of the strangest goals seen for a long time. Jermaine McSporran beat the offside trap as he ran through from just inside the County half, he then dummied Mildenhall who missed the ball completely allowing 'Jocky' to run the ball into the empty net. The victory was sealed on the stroke of full-time when Sean Devine's and McSporran's shots were blocked before Dannie Bulman composed himself enough to turn the ball home. Wanderers made two changes to the side that lost to Cambridge the previous Tuesday; Chris Vinnicombe returned at left-back after recovering from flu and Jermaine McSporran started upfront in preference to Keith Ryan. However, 'play anywhere' man Ryan got his chance again when he replaced Jason Cousins in the 16th minute after 'Couz' looked to have turned his ankle. As usual, 'Rhino' didn't let anybody down in his central defender role, while Roger Johnson looked to be enjoying his chance with the First Team. Cousin's departure was quickly followed by Vinnicombe having to be alert to cut out County dangerman Danny Allsopp but Wycombe responded from the break when Darren Currie pushed the ball in from the right only for Dannie Bulman to see his shot deflected high of the target. The opening goal came after Wycombe stepped up the pressure on the visitors, forcing four in quick succession. It was Darren Currie's deliveries from the left that caused most of the problems for the County defence. Ian Richardson had to head from under his own crossbar on 21 minutes and from the resulting corner Wycombe went ahead when Mildenhall let slip Currie's cross and Johnson was lurking at the far post to turn the ball in. The ex-Wanderers Youth Teamer celebrated in style. Wycombe could have gone further ahead on 25 minutes when Currie switched the ball from the right across to Devine who then flashed the ball into the path of Stuart Roberts but the Welshman's shot was too close to Mildenhall. Three minutes later Roberts turned provider as he moved the ball out right to Currie. The ex-Barnet player then sent away Senda down the right flank but Devine was unable to get accuracy on his near post effort from the resulting cross. It was all looking fairly comfortable at this point but a series of glaring misses from County had the danger bells ringing in the Wycombe defence. Stallard's howler from less than six yards on 29 minutes was the pick of the bunch but the ex-Wycombe striker should also have done better two minutes later when he fired wide from just inside the Wycombe penalty area. Wycombe survived those scares and had further chances of their own before the break. Michael Simpson saw a shot blocked on 38 minutes after Devine's cross from the left and been pulled back by Currie at the far post. A minute later another Currie corner from the left had the County defence scrambling to clear with Johnson in the action again. Half-time Wycombe 1 Notts County 0 County's best spell came immediately after the break. A poor pass by Senda on 50 minutes let in Richard Liburd and from the resulting goalmouth scramble Senda made ammends by getting in a vital block but suffered a knock in the process. Stallard completed a hat-trick of misses on 57 minutes when he fired over from Liburd's cross from the left. Steve Brown then replaced Roberts before Allsopp ballooned the ball over on 66 minutes with just Taylor to beat. That miss brought Lawrie Sanchez down from his seat in the stand and it proved to be County's last serious chance to grab something from the game. Brown managed to head in the opposite direction to goal on 67 minutes follwing Currie's centre from the right but five minutes later Jocky's dummy (genius, fluke or whatever), virtually killed the game off. There was still time for County Captain Ian Richardson to add to the visitors catalogue of shots in the stands before Wycombe capped the definitive 'flattering victory' when Bulman grabbed his fifth goal of the season. Final Score Wycombe 3 Notts County 0
