Wanderers Reserves drew 1-1 with Colchester United at Adams Park in this Avon Insurance Combination fixture. Both sides fielded relatively strong sides with the visitors including former Wimbledon and Charlton striker Carl Leaburn on trial.
After Marc Leach had gone close for Wycombe in the opening minutes from Stewart Castledine's right wing cross it was the visitors who looked more likely to score. Mark Osborn tipped over Marc Canham's free-kick in the 12th minute and after Dean Morgan had wasted one good chance after getting past Jason Cousins, it was the same player who opened the scoring on 23 minutes, rifling the ball home from the right side of the penalty area. Wycombe responded two minutes later when Paul Emblen went close with a first time effort from Martyn Lee's ball in from the left flank. Dave Carroll saw a curling free-kick nudged over the bar on the stroke of half-time as Wanderers began to find their feet.
Castledine, enjoying one of his better games for the reserves, had two efforts saved within the opening six minutes of the second-half and also laid a neat ball to Gavin Holligan but the former West Ham player was denied by the 'keeper.
Wanderers eventually drew level in the 53rd minute when Holligan danced through on the left side before whipping in a shot that the United 'keeper could only parry into the path of Marc Leach, who converted with ease.
The game lost its flow after Wycombe's equaliser and there were few additional chances for either side. Joe Keith blasted high of the target with five minutes left and in the final minute Carroll did a familiar weave but placed his shot a yard wide. Final Score Wycombe 1 Colchester 1
