The game kicked off 15 minutes early in an effort to beat the dense fog and it was the home side who had the better of the opening exchanges. Mark Osborn saved from Tom Cowan and then watched Alex Revell slip in front of him following an under hit back pass from Keith Ryan. Wanderers took the lead on 21 minutes when Dave Carroll set free McSporran down the right and the cross to near post was headed past George Clark in the U's goal by Stewart Castledine. 'Jocky' could have made it 2-0 four minutes later but Clark managed to push his effort over the bar. The second-half was a bit of a farce. In more serious circumstances and in front of more spectators the game would have been called off due to a complete lack of visibility across the pitch. However, with both sides keen to complete the fixture, play continued. Again it was the home side who started the half the brighter of the two teams but Wycombe survived before doubling their lead on 59 minutes, McSporran capitalising on a loose ball on the left, cutting inside the defender and then curling in a shot from 25 yards into the top corner. Wanderers then added a third on 76 minutes when Steve Brown sent away McSporran with a quick free-kick and the subsequent inviting cross from the left bye-line was converted by the head of Martyn Lee from six yards as he got in front of the U's defender. McSporran could have added a fourth in the dying moments which would have capped a fine individual performance. Final Score Cambridge 0 Wycombe 3
