A Wanderers XI came back from 2-0 down to overcome Aylesbury United 3-2 in the First Round of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup at Buckingham Road. Wanderers' fielded their usual reserves line-up with the surprise addition of First Team star Darren Currie. In contrast, there was a first start for Youth Teamer Kai Sudheimer.
With Currie in the side Wanderers always looked like they would have enough skill to overcome The Ducks but they still found themselves 2-0 down as the home side netted twice inside the opening twenty minutes. First on 16 minutes Scott Honeyball forced the ball home following a corner from the left and then on 19 minutes Dwain Clark converted with a powerful drive from the left edge of the Wycombe penalty area.
However, Wycombe regrouped and were level by the break. On 29 minutes Paul Emblen sent a low shot into the corner of the Aylesbury net from the left side of the penalty area and a minute before the interval Darren Currie finished from a similar position after Gavin Holligan had seen his shot blocked by David Lovell in the Ducks goal. It took Wycombe just four minutes of the second-half to take the lead, Currie chipping the ball through to Holligan down the left flank who then squared for Ian Simpemba to fire home from the edge of the box. Simpemba was unlucky not to score again on 69 minutes when he saw a similar effort hit the left-hand upright before rebounding across the face of the goal and spinning away for a goal-kick.
The Ducks had one effort disallowed for offside but that was the closest they came as Jason Cousins marshalled the centre of the Wycombe defence.
Jack Smillie went close to scoring on 82 minutes after Martyn Lee crossed from the left and Holligan twice went within inches of scoring in the final minute; skimming the crossbar with a speculative 30 yarder and then just failing to convert from the narrowest of angles.
