|WYCOMBE IN SPOTLIGHT AGAIN
(Tuesday 8th January 2002)
Lawrie Sanchez is helping Wycombe carve out more FA Cup history with another media attention grabbing performance against Premiership Fulham. The 2-2 draw with The Cottagers was shown on a special edition of Match of the Day and the Club had to cater for close to 100 press and photographers.
It was an indication of how far Wycombe have come that Sanchez was relatively unhappy that his side hadn't sent the Premier League side packing. Speaking on Match of the Day he said "I must admit I'm disappointed. It was there to be had tonight. We were two minutes away and I couldn't see them scoring but for the situation that arose"
The game attracted a record gate of 9,921 to Adams Park and they saw Wycombe come within a fraction of upsetting the Premier League side. "We've equitted ourselves well tonight. The crowd have gone home happy and they've seen a great game of football. One or two people have made a name for themselves tonight. McSporran up front caused a hell of a lot of problems for their back four. I don't think they see that pace every week in the Premier League." added Sanchez
McSporran, who turned 25 on New Years Day, said; "I was up for it tonight. It was always going to be a difficult with Fulham but you've always got to fancy our chances." McSporran missed out on last season's cup run due to injury and said he is determined to make up for it this season.
