ROBBO MEETS FAN CLUB
(Thursday 6th December 2001)
Wanderers' Welsh wizard Stuart Roberts enjoyed playing before his very own fan club as Wycombe beat Brentford 5-3 at Adams Park. A full coach load of family and friends made their way down from South Wales especially to see the 21 year old.
Writing in his weekly diary for the Independent Swansea City website, www.scfc.co.uk, 'Robbo' said "As I ran out onto the pitch I could see four big Welsh flags at one corner of the ground, which made me feel really proud, it was a great experience."
The travelling party from Wales included Stuart's Mother, his younger brother and Uncle, Wyndham Evans, a former legend for Swansea City. They were treated to an eight goal thriller although wonderkid 'Robbo' failed to score.
However, 'Robbo' came within inches of opening his goalscoring account for Wycombe. The Welshman saw a second half cross fizz across the face of the goal in front of his outstretched leg. Roberts said he was "gutted" to have missed but added "That first goal will come but the most important thing on Saturday was the result and not who scored. We won, and it was in some style too." Roberts even shared a joke with Lawrie Sanchez after the final whistle. The Wycombe boss mockingly 'clipped the player around the ear" as he left the pitch. Roberts added "It was funny, after the game as Lawrie Sanchez called me and said 'I bought you to score goals' and then he smiled. I took a bit of stick in the changing room, but that's all part of the game"
One thing's for sure, WHEN 'Robbo' scores his first goal for Wycombe, there's going to one hell of a celebration to mark the occasion!
